I assume albums often are unconfirmed until they've got the album done and the date set?

I was thinking the same thing.  I would think Universal would not list a tentative date but rather wait for a firm release date.  Until then it would be unconfirmed.

If it is to be released in the first week of March 6 we should have confirmation well before February. And if there's going to be a lead single, which in the UK now usually comes out two weeks before the album, it should be on the radio by now, so presumably there won't be one. Either that or Axl's forgotten to tell us some bad news...

Until the final album is officially turned over to the record company - everything else at this point can still be considered unconfirmed.  The album has to be in the record companies hands first before the distributor (Universal) gets wind of it.
