Sorry mate, but it is pretty hillarious that your manager doesn't agree with you.? rofl

Have u actually ever read an interview with Benitez? He describes every game from Luton to Leverkusen as a 'big test', and talks of how determinded the players will have to be to defend an 8 goal lead in a second leg match

He borders on chronic pessimism, but thats just his way of ensuring the players dont get complacent (i hope)? Did u watch the game againt PSV - we couldnt have thrown that away with David James in goal - he still spent the weeks before describing it like a cup final and resting players in the league to be ready for it!

But u hadnt even noticed had you??

Quote
Did you happen to get a look at todays Independent? I think that Rafa said something along the lines of you being "a long way off."

He's been saying the same thing incessently the last few weeks - why? Er....getting vast amounts of money from the new owners??

He's barely stopped talking about vast investment, he's not going to suddenly turn around and say...'nah u can keep ur money' - he's damn near threatened to move to Real Madrid too as part of his efforts

Quote
Oh, and there's a price breakdown of the spending of the big four... You'd find that pretty, pretty... Pretty interesting, too.

Rafa has had money to spend, and he's spent it - but we've had to start lower than our rivals, running to stand still - or did u think the team he inherited from Mr Houllier was title winning material? How about barely top three material? Igor Biscan anyone? Heskey as our primary striker? Dudek in goal? We were barely hanging on to a top 4 spot!

Of course u know that....but wait, no - u dont seem to....

should you guys not be touching yourself and thinking beckham right now? never saw the game (too busy celebrating scotland, briefly, topping their group) but from the highlights he appeared to do what you want him to.

opinions from the south of the border?

He did have a good game no doubt, his pass for Crouch's goal was brilliant but as always everyone is over reacting. The worlds highest paid footballer had a good game against Estonia, whatever next  Roll Eyes We still look very short of ideas going forward imo but the introduction of Beckham has papered over the cracks and nothing more, his passes won us the game so the media is happy but I'm not sure what the solution will be when his standards drop when he starts playing in the US.

I still think Mclaren is on borrowed time.

I've said it before, Becks is every offensively challenged manager's dream !

Eriksson, Capello and McClown all have one thing in common:their attacking style is boring and predictible, so Beckham's passes and free kicks get goals out of basically nothing.

? And David has never failed to perform when he was played as a proper right midfielder...his bad performances came when he played a more central and defensive position at Real, or when Sven made him play as a fucking right back for large periods in matches.

? Sure, it's only a temporary fix for McClaren, he can't rely on Beckham to always make 3 out of 4 goals, like he did in the last 2 mathces, but face it, it's England's only strong point right now....

? And as long as he stays fit and trains well, and he probably will, I don't think his performances will drop just because he plays in an inferior league...

? P.S.? Beckham is not all about free kicks and crosses, he is one of the most hard working midfielders in the world. It's not me that says that, it's statistics: in the last Primera Liga game he ran for 15 kilometers !!! Just to compare, Gattuso ran 11 kilometers in the Champions League Final, and 11 km is also Gerrard's average in a season...

a year or two ago this would have been devestating for the Gunners, but Henry has reached his peak - its good buisness to cash in now. I imagine Wenger already has 'the next Henry' lined up...

Oh, aye. This past year Henry has looked shot to bits. ?16 million potentially rising to ?20 million is a fantastic bit of business for a twenty nine year old that has, in recent times, looked a shadow of his former self.

Still. Dein... Henry... Wenger? From a Spurs fans perspective, you've got to hope that this is the begginings of a club in tatters.

Speaking of which, if you fancy a 100/1 punt courtesy of Mourinho,

it was in the papers this past week that he reckons there will be five teams in it for the title this year... Ahem. He puts Tottenham there because "[we] have good players."

Of course, if you were cynical you could look at it as a dig at Martin Jol (the above is a genuine quote from the special one himself!), but hey... Either way, it bodes well for a Chelsea collapse this coming season if he's penciled us in as title contenders!, given that he's quite possibly lost his mind.

... Personally, I thought we needed another year.  Wink

I'm happy for them, the poor guys basically have no fans.  The get crucified when they play on the road and then at home, the stadium fills up with immigrants hailing from the other team's country and the U.S. boys get brutalized even more.

the entire world is working hard to ensure American never likes football

...cos the day they do is the day football ends

Can u imagine US teams throwing around the money they do for baseball etc?

Each year we'll have players moving for ?100 million and signing ?1 million a match contracts

..there wont be a half decent player outside of North America, it would be like thousands of Chelsea's.....

If football became big in America they would probably be one of the top footballing countries, they have a large population, with a sporting culture, and the willingness to throw money at academys etc. All that would be needed is for football to become more popular in the US and they have the potential to be one of the major football nations, and probably a regular world cup winner.

For the reasons Izzy stated I hope it never happens, there are very average players in the US leagues that haven't even played for the USA earning more than Lampard or Gerrard are. If the games popularity increased there, even more money would be thrown around and the worlds best would all be crossing the Atlantic.
