izzy, the fact that they are the big names in italian football and that they are the big draw does not mean they should get away with cheating. if they had been treated lightly the next team to get caught cheating would get treatly lightly too. i'm not saying make an examply of them, but it seems like justice was carried out.

Everything Louder Than Everything Else

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has asked to leave Man Utd.

Unless Torres or someone like him takes his place (well, actually, takes Saha's place, cause lately Van's place has been on the bench), things will go wrong...not for the Glazers, though, they keep cashing in on players...
I've been thinking about who Man U will go in for this summer...I don't quite understand, when last summer, Ferguson was willing to offer ?37m for Buffon, and now that his team have been banned from europe and relegated, he decides he'd rather have Thomas Kuszczak instead, when he could probably get Buffon for around ?10m? Why not go in for Zambrotta (assuming he doesn't go to real), Cannovaro, Trezeguet, Ibrahimavid, Olivera etc.. All would be great additions to your sqaud (or anyones for that matter). Since Milan are out of Europe you might even be able to get Gattuso who would be a perfect replacement for Keane...

But the TEAM didnt do anything! The players and the manager did nothing!

All this does is punish the fans - what did they do?

Moggi, recorded disucussing refs for games, got a 5 year ban from football - wtf is that? I bet that left him in tears!

Those involved got away free, the guy at Milan got a 1 year ban - oh no, guess its suicide for him them Roll Eyes

This is nothing but the work of a couple of petty judges trying to remove some teams they dont support

...so Juve will be down for 2 years while the people responsible didnt even get a fine?!?

What about the English teams who got banned from European competition following the Heysel disaster?

It wasn't the players fault.

Van Nistelrooy goes to Real Madrid... almost official.

According to Guillem Balague on BBC Radio Five Live less than 30 minutes ago, he stated that Ruud has a verbal agreement to join Real, has agreed personal terms, and just needs the clubs to agree a fee.

That could be a sticking point. Apparently Real won't offer more than ?13 million, Man Utd want ?15 million.

According to Sir Alex, Bayern Munich and another 'unnamed' club have joined the race...

Real has a new chairman, a new coach, it's a new era for them...

Bar?a (as many clubs) is interested in Zambrotta, Thuram and Trezeguet...

the players mitent have done anything, they prob didnt even know, but they had an unfair advantage which wasnt fair on the other teams  in the league

put it this way, you support liverpool right?? so lets say the utd board bribe referees, but theyr players know nothing about it, utd then beat liverpool for example with a certain referee incharge, utd then get found out, now are you telling me they shouldnt be punished?? yeah the players did nothing wrong but the club as a whole gained from it so therefore the club as a whole gets punished

So what happens the next time teams cheat? And the time after that. Are clubs to get away with cheating simply to save the fans feelings?

Your position is admirable but its tainted by personal feelings.

Lance Armstrong insulted France football team saying that "all their players (France) tested positive... for being assholes." It will be on ESPN this Sunday.
Lance is known for having gone from suffering from cancer to winning 7 times the Tour de France... hihi

I'd want the people involved punished - its sickening when innocent people pay for other crimes - there are hundreds of thousands of Juventus fans who have had their team destroyed.

I'd say removing league titles was fair, and maybe a points deduction - but not relegation and not a ban from the Champions League

Why is claiming those involved should be punished so difficult to accept??

The teams didn't cheat

People who worked for the clubs did

The team did what they would have done anyways, unaware of what was going on

Therefore the people responsible should be dealt with - and a ban from football? What the hell is that? How does that affect people that had already resigned?Huh?

Who is suffering from this decision? Its not those to blame

izzy, i've never said that the indiviual shouldn't be punished.

and you've yet to answer my question. if the clubs are not heavily punished (ie relegation, bans from europe, points deducted, leagues taken away) what happens the next timeit happens? The fact that it can happen to Juve will show other it can happen to anyone (but like i said earlier Juve shouldnt be made an example. justice will suffice)

The simple fact is that people that cheated did so whilst representing and on the behalf of and for the benefit of the clubs and therefore they, the clubs, were punished.

Well they were punished heavily the last time and it had no effect.

Jail terms for those involved are suitable ways of keeping people from doing this.

How is the next person who wishes to rig matches discouraged by this? - He knows the club will be wrecked and he'll get a ban for 25 mins - oh damn!

Without the threat of criminal prosecution i cant imagine why anyone wouldn't try - a maximum 5 year ban from involvement in football - who cares? They had already resigned anyway!

i'm not against jail for those who specifically commit the crimes, but know they wont be punished heavily they'll be far more likely to take the risk than if they knew they'd get punished themselves rather than just a suit.

relegation was nearly a necessity otherwise it would've encouraged others to try and cheat knowing the club itself was immune.
