Morientes off to Valencia. I'll be really interesting to see who our new striker will be Smiley

I guess it'll be someone of these:

Defoe
Kuyt
Owen
Bellamy  nervous

Bellamy - ye gods, he's worse than Heskey...

Liverpool are famous for signing rubbish (second only to Spurs for that honour), i live in constant fear as to which pub player will presently sign on the dotted line

Credit to Benitez - he signs crap, but gets rid of it quick - unlike Houllier who would sign crap and keep playing it....

If Liverpool sign Kuyt then they should sell Crouch immediately.  From what i've seen of Kuyt he's a very similar type of player, although he has very good control and can actually head the ball.

Indeed - he wont last forever, and when Crouch is particularily bad he does get substituted - Heskey never got substituted regardless of his performance

I think Kuyt has declared that it is his 'ambition' to play for Newcastle.

Why would anyone have an ambition to play for a team that hasn't won anything for 50-odd years? Huh

not really. charlton, for example, are as big as their ever gonna be without a sugar daddy and eventually their bubble will burst. If newcastle were to drop down two divisions they'd still draw in bigger crowds than many premiership teams (like man city did, or hell even notts forrest do)

newcastle have got an entire city behind them, can't think of any other team with as much potential that isn't currently living up to it. They have as large a fan base as any in england and their only competition in their area of the coutry is middlesborough, who are punching above their weight as it is.

And the quote that i was replying to was "think Kuyt has declared that it is his 'ambition' to play for Newcastle. Why would anyone have an ambition to play for a team that hasn't won anything for 50-odd years?"

Obviously it would be ridiculous to say that newcastle could be as powerful or succesful as chelsea, but the fact that chelsea hadn't won the league in a half century didnt stop them bringing in big players. Failure in the past does not guarantee failure in the future - especially if you throw money at it like newcastle do.

Throwing money around in football doesnt guarantee success, but given enough chances they'll eventually get something.

wow. i wrote a lot. mainly shite.

Not sure even Newcastle's PR guys would say that

Man Yoo, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool are all significantly more supported teams - and with all the new glory hounds I dare say Chelsea are up there too

Lol - 3-4 years ago round this area u'd only see Arsenal and Spurs shirts...never a Chelsea shirt, now they have won a few things.....look at all this support they have hihi

they have as high a demand for season tickets as anyone.

maybe not as many hangers on as other clubs. but in the long run its better that way.

Yeah but they're not exactly going places. Freddy Shepherd throws money at the team every year but they still don't achieve. And with Glen Roeder I hardly think anyone can say they have potential to do anything, especially now that Shearer is retired.

yeah, but like i said in my long winded reply up a few posts they'll get it right at some point.

and i think shearer has held them back the last few years due to the fact that he's only gotten goals from penalties as he's over the hill. get a good partner for owen and thats as good a strikeforce as there is in england.

Hmmm, hearts have been linked with former red star manager, retired goalie Walter Zenga. Whilst he boasts a fair euro pedigree and formidable domestic record i would have to change allegience should he get the job. The only song we could for him would be

"The Zenga Bus is coming"

Not happening.

He used to manage my team, Steaua Bucharest...he did a pretty good job, eliminating Valencia in the UEFA Cup. Great defensive coach, crappy ofensive one

Shevchenko is about to sign for Chelsea

*Gulp*

Though why do they buy old players? Shevie isn't getting any better....and 30 mill is a daft amount to pay for a player you'll get 1 or 2 seasons from at most
