Looking at that incident, you would think so, wouldn't you? But if chalking off goals on a players admission was to become common practice, I see nothing but problems for the fluidity of the game. Players hound the referee as it is (following a dodgy decision with most clubs, following
any
decision against you if you play for Chelsea), can you imagine what they would do to a player that has handled a goal? The rest of the game, at half time... Nobody would leave him alone. And what if they are wrong! Even the player wouldn't be sure on some occasions. Most people who have ever played competetivly regularly know that sometimes, in the heat of a scuffle in the box, you can be unsure as to where abouts the ball really did hit you, or if enough contact was made to bring you down.
In my opinion, decisions should never be reversed during a game; and only so when they are afterwards, I see no reason for it to extend to goals. You just have to accept as a football fans that the officials are going to make mistakes from time to time. Sportsman like is to accept that it was bad decision, and put it down to bad luck on the part of the other team. As long as it isn't intentional, of course...

I was taught as a child to play to the whistle. Maybe all of you were taught differently, but the retired proffessionals that taught me always told me to play on untill the referee calls you back.
Well, I personally was taught to be an honest footballer as a child. I know it may sound ridiculous in the context of the game in recent years, but if I was in Drogba's position I'd have owned up.
The reason i always teach kids to play to the whistle is that they will lose concentration. If they foul somebody and then stop waiting for the ref to blow they risk getting caught cold. It also means you are not wired in to the game 100%.
It is the referee's prerogative to see the foul and blow the whistle; not the players.

The Arsenal score goals of beauty and majesty.
The Chelsea players will be in their country homes quaffing champagne and watching what could have been.

I can see you're point here, but this I feel would be a worthy sacrifice, if it means the cleaning up of the game. Of course, it would not work so it is only a pipe dream on my behalf really. But I would expect at least the introduction of video evidence into the game. This was introduced into the rugby recently and won Ireland a very important game a couple of weeks ago, without that vital video evidence, we'd have lost. So surely you would advocate the introduction of video replays?

Fabregas is a genius.

Hell no. Rugby, like Cricket, is a lot more stop and start than the beautiful game. Video replays would completly disrupt the fluidity of the game; how do you decide
when
to use it? When the goal is in dispute? Think of all the goals that we mortals think were offside that weren't, or that we thought involved a foul in the build up? It's far more frequent and at varying levels than when an Umpire is unsure where exactrly the ball hit the players leg. So, at the discression of either captain? So, every goal then...
I know that I should be for it.
That
goal at Old Trafford last season cost us Europeon Football
this
season. But I'm not. I will take the odd dodgy decision over the sacrifice of fluidity any day of the week.

Fabregas is indeed a genious - he is also the prince of Highbury. Next season, when Henry's left and Bergkamp's retired he will be promoted to King and will become my favourite player. Him and Pires ran the show tonight, it's just a shame Henry wasn't on top form cause we could've had more than two goals for sure. I can't believe Viera got outclassed by a teenager!

Personally I would have an NFL style system where each team gets 2 challenges per game on dodgy decisions like penalties and goals etc
Off topic I'd have a similar system in cricket for lbw decisions or edges etc, 2 appeals an innings then if youre top batsman is given out when hes on like 20 you can review it

Nah, the only true way is Umpire's discression.
It's the same with football. But footballers are dickhead's. They would be all over the referee for the fourth (... or maybe it would be the 'fifth'?) official's view after every goal. The 2 appeal thing doesn't work in as far as what are you supposed to do if there are three dodgy goals... The first one you 'aren't too sure about'? Save you dispute until you need it more?

In which match has there ever been 3 dodgy goal decisions though
Not many

My point was, if you use one of your 'dubious decision... replay... things', you can never be certain as to what goal is comming next.
Well, Sunderland scored 3 own goals in about fifteen minutes 3 seasons ago, does that count as three dodgy goals?

Is anyone else getting concerned about this G14 group?
To me, I can't see what possible good could come from the 18 richest clubs in Europe grouping together, trying to influence Fifa's major decisions. All I can see happening is the gulf between the richest and poorest getting bigger and that can only be bad for the game. For want of a better phrase - they must be stopped as soon as possible.
Am I being hysterical, or are my fears justified?
