Have you even seen the replay?  He wanted to take it quickly twice, and both times Robert stuck his foot in the way to block it.  If Robert had just stood still then i'd be agreeing with you, but he blatently stuck his foot out to stop it.  Watch the replay.

Bergkamp kicking it against him is no different to a player appealing to the ref when he's having his shirt tugged.  I don't see why he's obliged to let Robert get away with it, we wanted to attack quickly and he was illegally preventing us from doing so.

And again on this whole 'luck' thing, if Newcastle had a last-minute goal disallowed for a handball, would you think we were 'lucky' that it hit his hand? Undecided

I have seen the replay and all i see is what every premiership team does. Once giving away a free kick getting a player to stop the quick free kick..... even Arsenal do it.

Infact its in the FA coaches guide for young players. If Paul Scholes had done it against Germany Hamann would not have scored at Wembely.

The Guide says that to stop the flow and quickness of sides make sure once a foul has been committed make sure a player stops the quickly taken free kick especially around the box.

But most teams won't just kick it against the player Trying to get the other player sent off. they will leave it and wait.

I would not even mind if Bergkamp was trying to stop him getting sent off but he knew exactly what he was doing by kicking that ball against him.... at a time where newcastle were looking good.

The players reaction says it all, i think its called professional integrity... but maybe they don't have that in France and Holland. Not sure.

What's with all this 'The FA encourages players to try to block free-kicks when they're not 5 yards (or whatever it's supposed to be) away' crap?  There is a rule saying you're only allowed to block a free-kick when you're a certain distance away, and Robert intentionally broke that rule to stop Arsenal's attack, and Bergkamp is the cheat?!

Why should he leave it?

If you are fouled, you appeal.  If an attacker is offside, the defenders appeal.  If someone hand-balls it, you appeal.

Bergkamp was not trying to get Robert sent off, he was trying to show the referee that Robert was cheating.  There's a huge difference.  Why should he argue with the red card?  Robert was cheating!

You seem to think Bergkamp owed Robert something.  He didn't.  If your shirt is being tugged, you put your arms in the air to show the ref that you are being wronged.  Please, explain to me the difference.

Its in the coaches guide made by the FA. Its in defending set pieces. It don't say block it but it says get in the way and prevent the player from taking it quickly. Which is what Robert did is it not?

Bergkamp was Trying to get him sent off 100% he knew exactly what he was doing.

He saw a chance to get a player sent off and he did.... i just don't like that. Its exactly the same as encouraging the ref to book someone its a Disgrace

But...that doesn't make any sense!

The rules say that when a free-kick is being taken, the opposing players have to be at least five yards from the ball.  Robert was not close to five yards from the ball, and was trying to block it.  That's against the rules!

Shearer's explination:  "What can the lad do?  He was only a yard away, and didn't have any time to move and the ball's just hit him.  There was nothing he could have done."  <---total bollocks.

Can you at least agree with me that Robert was definately trying to get in the way of the ball?

Also, can anyone give us an un-biased opinion on this?

ah hahaha, i'm not arsed what you say about robert, i think it was harsh but havent seen the replay as i have been in the house about literally half an hour. but for berkamp to come off and say that it was 2 points dropped for you soft southern bassas is rather unbeleivable. the result was fair and if anything i think we shaded them toffee cock wankers. but then again its arsenal and apparently, according to the silly french cunt who manages them there is a conspiracy against arsenal this season and every other previously  Roll Eyes so what happened today then, did he decide to fuck it and give the ref a back hander? i doubt it but i think this match goes to prove that ARSEne should shut his moaning little french gobshite of a mouth and learn to take a result as it comes to him, like other managers manage to, with integrity  Smiley fucking good match though and i think it shows that we arent just the great pretenders, well apart from that idiot o'brian, what the hell he is doing in the premiership i will never know? any clues please inform me!!

There is a difference between the coaching guide and the ref guide.

I believe that Robert was trying to stop Bergkamp taking it the first time then Bergkamp kicked it against him just to get him sent off.

Shearer was right in a way.... coz there was no way he could have got out of the way if he had hit it first time. Second time tho he could of. But why should he. Every team does it every match including arsenal and it was poor ref- ing and Bergkamp did it just to get him sent off

I'm certain that Robert was trying to stop him both times, but it's pretty irrelevent anyway.  If he tried to stop it first time, then he was at fault.  Personally, I wouldn't call it a bookable offense, but the FA do, so it was the right decision.

You're acting like Robert was the victim.  I've seen the replay many times, and Bergkamp did not hit it *at* him.  If Bergkamp had hit it *at* him then there would have been no way Robert could have got out the way, but he threw his leg at the ball to try and stop it!

I will admit that Bergkamp can react badly sometimes, but to be honest I don't blame him.  He is not a cheat.  He only reacts when other people are cheating (ie, he'll throw a fist when somebody's shirt-tugging).  To call him a cheat is prejudice and uneducated.

1-1 was a fair result though.

meh, I'm still on course for my grand, if United can win it all  Wink

woo, United to win the quadruple!

I can't wait till the United / Arsenal match...I basically support United now, wherever Spurs aren't concerned...

it should be a fucking great match...

predictions?

I'm going for a United win...and obviously that's a baised opinion ( Wink), but they do have the home advantage, plus I think they may go after it slightly more...

I'm not saying Arsenal won't try really hard

but when United want something, they really want it...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got tickets for the Spurs Liverpool game today...should be a pretty good game, hopefully Liverpool will still be suffering this dip in form...  [hihi]

and I may be going to the game against United at White Hart Lane

England game should be worth watching tonight.

Personally, I don't think Rooney has done enough to earn an England place yet (Francis Jeffers has scored more goals than him!).  However, it'll be interesting to see how he does.  Plus, he's almost certain to be a big England player in the future, so it's good that he's getting early experience.

Should be fun...

I think Rooney deserves a call up, but beattie deserves a full match for me he has been excellent this year.

Jeffers may have scored more goals but then for the record has dived more too [ok]

Id like to see Rooney and Beattie play together second half.

I also wanna see Scott Parker and Jenas play some part as i think they are excellent players

just  watching the highlights now.

what i can say is, giving 6 young players their first caps in such a young inexperienced team is completely pointless. the whole point of making a senior team debut is that younger players are placed in a team of experince and gain experience at a higher level. if they're gonna play in a youth side they may as well play in the u-21's.

although they scored more and let in less than the 'senior' full strength squad did  Undecided

even gary linekar, alan of hansen and peter reid have just agreed with me - look i dont talk crap ALL the time, yay  Smiley although i realise they do most of the time

Okay, before GnrFan gets here:  Yes, Lauren is a diving twat.  I'm really disappointed in him, we were 2-0 up and there was absolutely no need for it.  I assure you that Arsenal are not the kind of team that promotes cheating like that.

However, on the rest of the game:  FUCK YES!

We played very well, especially as we were away from home.  We got lucky twice in the first half, but generally I don't think you can doubt that we were the better team.

And UYI:  Hah!  We stopped a Spurs fan from making a grand! Tongue

I'm big enough to admit that in the second half arsenal played really well.

However that lucky free kick was why they looked so good... as man u had to chase the game and gaps opened up.

Arsenal had one chance and scored two goals... I was disappointed in Manchester United as we created 4 really good chances and failed to hit the target... and how giggs missed that i will never know.

Lauren is a twat, but it was not only him.... Jeffers spent more time on the floor in the first half than standing up... and even Pires who i admire greatly after being fouled went down as if he was shot ten times.

I just think if Giggs had put that chance away it would have been UTD match, with Man Utd vs Arsenal the first goal is always important its just a shame it was in that way.

Vieria was immense but he had lots of room coz of the situation... but for Man Utd i thought Wes Brown was amazing and that tackle on Wiltord was inch perfect.

Arsenal have won the double now... A fiver is coming my way.

A Gutted Man Utd Fan

I was very dissapointed with United

having to chase the game didn't help at all...

the first ten minutes were actually really funny, I thought

players were running across the pitch to try and take out a particular someone...

everyone kinda got hot under the collar and lost their heads
