brazil are the only team on earth more likely to attack at 2-0 up more than they would at 0-0. Beautiful off the ball running throughout the match. There gonna have to have an off day for anyone to beat them next summer.

Congrats to Brazil, they just keeping finding these new gems - Adriano and Kaka will take all before them next world cup.

Imagine if England had a stream of such quality! We're lucky to get 4 outstanding players a generation - Brazil get them every few years

You've not had players of that quality, but you've had dozens of truelly world class players over the years. The simple fact is that they've under-produced or bottled it. Forget the dutch and the spaniards, england are by far the biggest under achievers in world football.

Yay, after 7 weeks of torture my beloved Hearts have finally appointed a new manager and it's George Burley. We had hoped to get Nevio Scala and came close to getting Sir Bobby, but given the fact that we nearly had to sell our stadium last year i'm delighted to have Burley.

.....World Cup in '66 - how many times are we expected to have won it?

Penalties denied us in '90 and '96

And don't rate Brazilian players that high - they are good, but not that much better than what we have

how many times have you won anything else? You say the brazilian team isn't that much better yet they've won it five times and the copa america countless times. And penalties didn't deny you anything, if you'd lost the final on penalties, fair enough, but not semi-finals. A country that has produced the quality of player that england produces regularly should have won far more.

Meh, it's like flipping a coin.

I'm not blaming our 'bad luck' but a change in the wind could have meant that we had have won it five times as well.

Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, Owen, Ashley Cole. All would walk into almost any team in the world. I know England don't compare remotely to Brazil atticking wise (Adriano, Kaka, Diego, Robinho, Ronaldo etc..) but right now, England have the best defence in the world.  Terry and Ferdinand are probably the only central defenders who would be able to keep Adriano and Robinho under control.

Having said that, I still think Brazil are gonna win in 2006.

The circus that is Steven Gerrard has arrived back in town

Apparently despite the fact Gerrard refused to sign a deal for over a year he's annoyed with Liverpool for not opening talks earlier?!?

He's clearly a more intrested in the money than the club - and i will now gladly watch him go. If we can trick someone into giving 30 million for him, so much the better

the gerrard thing is ridiculous. He supposedly loves the club yet can't sort out terms? Is the ?80,000 per week not enough as it is?

Wage caps need to be re-introduced into the game as there are far too many players letting they're wallets rule. They should go to the best club that will have them, not the one that offers most.

Liverpool unveil fab four

Monday, 4 July 2005
On a hectic day of transfer activity at Anfield, UEFA Champions League holders Liverpool FC have completed the signings of four players, including Spanish goalkeeper Jos? Manuel Reina from Villarreal CF.

Spanish success
The 22-year-old Reina helped Villarreal to third place in the Primera Divisi?n last season, conceding just ten goals at the Madrigal, having joined from FC Barcelona in summer 2002. Reina had an eight-year contract with the Spanish side, including a clause allowing Reina to study offers from Europe's biggest clubs.

National team
Reina has represented Spain at various youth levels and kept goal for his country in their 1999 UEFA European Under-16 Championship success. In May, he received his first senior call-up, although he was an unused substitute for Iker Casillas in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Zenden delight
Liverpool manager Rafael Ben?tez revealed Reina's signing at a press conference to unveil Dutch international Boudewijn Zenden, who has joined as a free agent after his contract with Middlesbrough FC expired on 1 July. "I am absolutely delighted to be signing for Liverpool," Zenden, 28, said. "When a club like this comes in for you, you don't need asking twice."

Gonz?lez role
Ben?tez also announced that the English Premiership team had secured the services of Albacete Balompi?'s 20-year-old Chilean winger Mark Gonz?lez on loan, and Sevilla FC right-back Antonio Barrag?n, 18. "We have today introduced Bolo Zenden as a Liverpool player but we have also signed Jos? Reina, the best goalkeeper in Spain, Mark Gonz?lez, the best player in Chile, and Antonio Barr?gan," said the Liverpool manager. "We will be signing two or three more players this week."

Gerrard negotiations
Of speculation surrounding the future of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Ben?tez added: "I can assure our fans that we want Steven Gerrard to stay with us for the rest of his career. I renew my deal with Liverpool in four or five years, and when I do, I would like Stevie to be my next coach, assistant manager and maybe even the next manager after me. He can even have the chief scout position if he wants it.

We are trying to build a better team and a better squad and I want Stevie to be a major part of that

Rafael Ben?tez

Team building
"We are trying to build a better team and a better squad and I want Stevie to be a major part of that," Ben?tez continued. "Last season I tried to get Stevie to sign a new deal three times. On each occasion he said 'wait', so we waited. This year we want to win more trophies and that is why we are improving our squad with new signings."

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard looks set to leave Anfield after his agent said talks over a new deal had broken down and were unlikely to start again.

Fuck him - if he doesn't love the club, he can find a new one. Should get a lot for him.

Its a real shame he has lied so much - we all remember his post CL final comments about how he could never leave - he's given money and success - what more does he want?

A club with a future?

Porto won the CL; if you were a decent player would ever consider staying with (let alone joining) them?

As I told anyone who would listen, I would forgive Gerrard for his post CL comments in a second. It's not like he confessed his undying love for ahis club to a tabloid on any given day, and then stabbed them in the back.

He said he would stay after winning the biggest medal he will probably ever win, do you blame him? Of course he would go over the top.

Look at the state of your club, which you will admit yourself. Would you blame him for leaving for a team with a much brither future ahead of them?

Gerrard is in lovd with Liverpool, if he wasn't, he would have left three seasons ago.

But he needs to further his career.

And face it, that is not something that he can do with you.
