Wow - so it was in place last season....and i never even realised. I pay so little attention to the competition i hadn't even noticed it changed...
Well i guess that answered the question though - with a Monaco v Porto final last season the Champions league format has been made considerably worse....
Maybe if it didn't have that stupid break in the middle....
Its the Premiership for me! Drives me nuts when the first half of the champions league pits Liverpool etc against the fourth best team in Moldova and every match is Juventus v Lichenstein Rovers. Keep the crap out! (yes, i know that would mean Liverpool out to....)
And i have absolutely no intrest in internationals either (apart from Brazil and Argentina games) the rest is tedious in the extreme, Belgium v Equitorial Guinea? NOOOOOO

What?
I cried when England lost to Portugal.
And I cried in 98. Those were the only two times...
I don't think that you understand the format of progression and qualifying in that much depth. You need those shit matches in order to appreciate the better ones. You're probably the type of person who doesn't like the undercard, and wishes that all the fights were for the super heavy weight championship. It boils down to this: If all matches were exciting and out of this world, then exciting and out of this world = bland.
And to say that new format doesn't work after one season is ridiculous. We all know this has been the year of the Underdogs so far.
Now, to more important matters, than fools who can't appreciate good football.?
Spurs are on their best run in about nine years!!
Four wins (WINS!!) in a row. Man I'm on such a high. And, apparantly, we were very impressive. 5-1, even against a struggling Southamption, is still very good for a team who are coming of the back of six succesive defeats.
I'm watching United Palace.
Interesting...Interesting. 4-2. They're becoming a bit of an Arse(nal) when it comes to set pieces.
Man, that was a kick ass pun, I might send it into a tabloid and get money and sex for it.
Izzy, are you going to watch the big games, like Barca Chelsea, and Real Juvi?
If I sound arsy, I'm not. I'm just....I don't know. How you'd react if somebody said Appetite was shit. (I made an assumption that you love Appetite. I hope that I was correct in that assumption)

Oh don't get me wrong, i used to be into the Champions league big time - and as for internationals i missed exams to see them...
But now, with Sven...and that awful football and the 15 substitutes a game and the cap to EVERYONE, its killed my whole interest in international football. And over the years that second group phase and then a 2-3 month break really started to bug me....
But...these clashes look intresting and maybe it can reawaken my interest.
Spurs are doing well (nooooo, another team after Liverpool's champions league place - we need that money, but more importantly it keeps Gerrard)

Everyone looking forward to their Boxing Day footy? What do you reckon to all these whingers who want a winter break? I say fuck that, players are overprivelaged as it is, so what if they have to do a few hours training on xmas day.
We (Argyle) are playing QPR, we need to win to keep the relegation zone at bay. As normal I hope all results go against man utd, exeter, luton, burnley and bristol city.
Merry xmas!

What, because you missed a penalty?
Don't be, it was taken awfully. And the follow up was even funnier.
5? Meh. Against a pretty poor side. You should be more happy that you kept a clean sheet, five goals is just a formality against the Brom.
Although, saying that...
2-0 against Norwich!! We rule.

No because we won against a team we should beat - we have most trouble against them - against serious teams we fare far better.

Man United has been hot lately. The old school gang, Giggs, Scholes and Keano are all back to their best. Let's hope that they can keep it up until the Milan games, especially now with Ruud doubtful

I say the smartest managers in the World all think it's been long overdue, and they probably know a lot more about what they're talking about than we do.
What's most annoying about the Liverpool/Chelski game was the fact that I can't moan about the handball or the deflected goal, cause pretty much exactly the same thing happened to us against Newcastle.

Wow. 5-2 Against Everton. Shit. Man we rule.
United Spurs is going to be sooo interesting. If we beat them, pencil me in for tickets to the Champions League qualifying round.
I love Martin Jol.
I can't wait until we meet Arsenal again. It will be a real derby again, just like the last one.

Is that all Spurs fans think about - when they're next gonna have the chance to beat Arsenal?
I love Martin Jol as well, by the way. He has a fantastic attitude, seems like a lovely bloke, and has actually got Spurs playing some good football.
Did anyone see the incident at the end of the Spurs/Man Utd game? Classic stuff.

Its the optimism of Spurs fans that always makes me smile - its charming in a hopelessy naive and sad way
Every season - many signings, a new manager, sometimes even a good start - and then 12th place. Every year. You can kind of set your watch to it - the only consistent thing in football.
I wish Spurs the best, god knows its about time they finished in the top half but i don't think this season will be much of an improvemenet on all the others. But lets find out.

My sympathy goes out to all Spurs fans. Just the latest team to get screwed at Old Trafford. How far was that ball in the fucking goal?? I don't think the officials have got an excuse, they just bottled it like they always do. Spurs should complain about that and demand a public apology from the FA, it was a disgrace. If that had happened to Argyle I think I would've gone on a rampage.

Did anybody see it? People are killed over things like that.
We went crazy, and second by second were slowed down by the realization that it hadn't been given...I thought, maybe offside? But then why no whistle? You can't play advantage. Shocking. Truly fucking shocking.
And fuck all those "Spurs didn't deserve to win anyway" people. Hell yeah we did. Ledley and Robinson were of international standard, easily. Okay, so we wern't fantastic, but we were at Old Trafford, of course we would be defending. And we did so in a way worthy of a win. We tried to break, but without Kanoute (who has been outstanding recently) or Defoe it was hard.
But oh well, I won't rant too much. A point is more than I expected anyway. Although, had the Heinze free kick gone in, I would have smashed something up by now. Many times.
Oh, and yes. That is all we think about.

You mean Carroll's "save"? ?Yeah, Tottenham deserved the win, United couldn't put iit pst Robinson and they were punished, but good ol' ref had another agenda
It's disgusting how this club hasn't had a decent goalkeeper since Schmeichel.
?Maybe Mourinho wouldn't be such a bigshot today if Tim Howard wouldn't had gifted Porto the decisive goal in last year's Champions League.
Giggs is out for six weeks!! Oh the humanity!
