DX sez "Suck It!"

The wrong direction began with grunge.

Gradually the rock music world was changing, and going away from the 'hair' sound that dominated the 80's, and hitting more classic & tried n' proved sounds, brought on thankfully by Metallica & Guns N' Roses. Metallica harkened back to the Judas Priest & Iron Maiden heavier sound, whereas Guns took a note from the more hard rock sound of the Stones and the arena big feel of Zeppelin.

If rock would've stayed on this track imo it would've went in better places, at least into the late-90's. Grunge unfortunately took off like a bottle rocket, and like with any bottle rocket, once it pops, it falls just as quickly. Unfortunately too many bands started trying to copycat this mold, not realizing it was a fad sound for a certain time. Would anyone do 'disco' in 2007? Grunge was exactly that. A sound of the times. A sound of the early-90's.

Unfortunately, since 1991, we've had a gradual spiral into uncreativeness, and we now are right back where we started from. Contemparary rock bands are now once again being manufactured by record execs with no sound or originality or even true rock roots, just like in the 80's. The only difference, is at least in the 80's... the music was half way decent.
