All the versions of CITR I download has a weird hiccup at 4 minutes and 37 seconds. Does anyone have a perfect version where there are no hiccups or know a site where I can get such a version? Please let me know. Thanks1

Im pretty positive that is the only version existing at the moment.

The hiccup as you call it, is because the song was leaked on to the net via a tape, and not a CD like the other leaks.

CITR is a fantastic song!? I really hope it makes it on CD - I can't wait to hear the studio version (or a live version for that matter).?

The Blues is probably my favorite of the new songs from the 2002-era.? CITR is probably my favorite from this year.? Both deserve to be on CD, imo.? ?ok

I love this song - its totally timeless. Aside from the audio quality issues of the leak aside, this song is perfect. If it makes an album untouched itll be up there with the stunners  beer

Be interesting to see what tweaks (if any) have been made to this song over the years. I trust Axl with this it though  hihi

I agree I played Madagascar for people who werent neceseraily hard rock fans and they all liked it,I think its a real unique good track thats epic,it would fit nicely with CITR and Better and The Blues, the other songs are good but not single material, they would be good fillers and should sound a lot better as a finished product

When all I've got is precious time

« Reply #1087 on: August 26, 2006, 11:48:06 AM »

fixed some of the lyrics (the last few lines)

Catcher in the Rye

When all is said and done
We're not the only ones
Who look at life this way
That's what the old folks say
But every time I?d see them
Makes me wish I had a gun

If I thought that I was crazy
Well I guess I'd have more fun
Guess I'd have more fun

Ooh the Catcher in the Rye again
Ooh won't let ya get away from his gun
It's just another day like today

You decide
If I don't have to
Then they'll find
And I won't ask you
At anytime
Or long thereafter
If it's cold outside
As I?m imaging
How it?s gonna be
All alone

(Solo)

Ooh the Catcher in the Rye again
Ooh won't let ya get away from his gun
It's just another day like today

When all is said and done
We're not the only ones
Who look at life this way
That's what the young folks say
As if they'd ever change
That's not whom I to say
But every time I'd see them
Makes me wish I had a gun
If I thought that I was crazy
Well I guess I'd have more fun
It's what used to be's not there for me
And ought to find someone that belonged insane like I do

Oh no
Not at all (repeat)

On an ordinary day
Not in an ordinary way
All at once this song I heard
No longer would it play for anybody
Or anyone
That needed comfort from somebody
Needed comfort from someone who cared
To be
Not like you
Unlike me
And then the voices went away
From me
So many set the wheels in motion
Haunts our memories
You were the instrument
You were the one
How a body took the body
Gave that boy a gun
Took our innocence
Beyond our stares
Some type of omen
There we got it
All alone with her to tell

Most of it sounds pretty good to moe (although I won't get into the him/his gun debate in the chorus, lol) but I really do think he says:

"And then the boy took that away
From me
So that he set the wheels in motion"

My interpretation of the song is that Axl is singing in the character of Mark David Chapman until the last set of "nanana's" (or not at all's) and then he switches over to his perspective of the situation, telling us that MDC took away the song, the person who was different from everyone else and comforted them. Also I think it is "innocent" and not "innocence", referring to Lennon as an innocent that was taken from the world. As for the last little bit you certainly could be right. I have no idea what he is saying there. Anyway, you do great work transcribing these songs and I (along with many others) really appreciate it. Hopefully in a few months we'll have a thick book of all the lyrics and all will be right with the world.

one thing about the song that i love, is that i thought it was about MDC....and that the song has an overall beatles-esque vibe....probably my fave of the leaks!

I always thought it was, "You WEREN'T the instrument / You were the one".

A popular theory is that the FBI mind-controlled MDC into being their slave by drugging him and making him associate what they told him to do with reading The Catcher in the Rye. Thus implying he's only the instrument of a stronger power's motives that he couldn't possible challenge, and therefore he can't be held responsible for his actions since someone else was in control of them.

You can read a detailed explanation of the theory here....
http://www.hiddenmysteries.org/conspiracy/reststory/fbirye.html

So "You WEREN'T the instrument" would imply MDC always had a choice whether to follow the FBI's commands and is the one responsible for the death of Lennon.

Also, this might be a stretch, but GN'R made Elton John's "The One" a frequent cover during the early 90's shows and the last verse of that song is....

For each man in his time is Cain
Until he walks along the beach
And sees his future in the water
A long lost heart within his reach

MDC actually does fit as a modern day Cain on just about every level, so that would be an interesting comparison if intended.
