It's a very catchy track.
Needs to be re-mixed and mastered now though before being put onto a CD.

I still laugh when I hear that. The album was years away from being finished, not even close to a first single(still dont have one), yet he was strategizing over a 3rd single.
A good example of how wrong priorities contributed to the never ending work on the album.

was that from Madison who was allegedly told the 3rd single? Bizarre - I cant imagine planning/marketing was that far advanced at that stage of the game?

Im kind of disappointed that this song seems to have perhaps been left off the first disc. Along with the Blues and CD, it's easily my favourite. He can leave off that dreadful Madagascar plod and put this on. Its imperative the very best songs make the first CD and from what we've heard thus far, this is def amongst the best

Actually, Madison said that she met Axl in one of the 2002 shows and she asked if CITR would be the 1st single. He told her the name of the 1st single (the one intended to be, at least), which she promissed not to tell anyone, and said that CITR would be the 3rd single.
That's what she posted at mygnr.com at some point in the past. Maybe it's still somewhere right there... just search.
Many people got confused later, thinking he said CITR would be on the 3rd album. But, according to her, he said
3rd single
.
Well but we know how things work on GNR... anything can happen.

I dont remember who said it, but if it came from Axl(or someone in the GNR camp) than its just another example of one of many contradictions. Supposedly soon wasn't the word, but to be planning a 3rd single means the album was finished. You dont plan 3rd singles while sitting on piles of demos. Looks like the album was redone(again) in late 2002-2006.

I agree 100%. CD is the key. Who cares about later albums at this point. CD has to have the "creme da la creme" on it. No room for filler. Madagascar is about as close to filler as you can get. I am shocked this song is even being considered for the final tracklist of CD. It makes me wonder about the quality of what we haven't heard. Maybe he never finished CITR, so it is basically a song in flux. But the exclusion of CITR should not guarantee the inclusion of Madagascar. Having Madagascar on the album makes me believe we may already have heard "the Big Guns", and everything left is likely simple rockers or cheesy ballads. To be honest, I think I would likely rather have Riyadh on CD than Madagascar. I dont know, its a tough call.
Axl is going to have a tough time choosing which songs to put on CD.

Since they showcased "Madacascar" at the 2002 VMAs, they kind of have to release it.
Most think Madagascar is a classic.

2002 is irrelevant. He could have played an entire album at that show and he wouldnt have to release it. No, most dont think its a classic. Most of that comes from people who would say anything is a classic. The word masterpiece gets thrown around these forums way too much. Madagascar clearly isn't a masterpiece, and will likely be one of the worst songs on the album. If Madagascar is the "masterpiece" on the album, get ready for CD to be crucified and go down as the biggest blunder in rock history.
In my opinion, at the last minute it gets cut from the tracklist. Of course, I'm going on the assumption that he has great songs we haven't heard yet. If we have heard the best he has to offer, then Madagascar will probably end up on CD.

absolutley
gotta say im concerned about the quality of songs on CD if that turkey makes it
Im with you on Rhiad as well! Hell Silkworkms might even be a better bet
Seriously, i sincerley hope Axls saved a few real big guns, because judging by what we have now, we have a strong EP with some average filler, nothing more

I agree 100%. In my opinion, these are the only songs worthy of being on Chinese Democracy(if its going to be a "masterpiece").
The Blues
Better
Chinese Democracy
Catcher in the Rye
TWAT (I'm only including this because its one of Axl's favorites, so it will likely be on the album).
The rest are garbage can material. He's got to have something else mindblowing up his sleeve, or its time to change that tracklist number of 13 and lower it a few notches. I said this when I first joined this site, and I'm gonna say it again. This album will be better, and have a better legacy, if it is a 6 or 7 track EP with killer material instead of a 13-17 track album that is loaded with filler. The songs listed above are remarkable. I dont think the impact of those songs should be diluted with mediocre material just to fill space. I have 5 songs listed as making the cut. That leaves 8 slots to fill. Since CITR isnt likely to be on there, make that 9 slots. He has a tough decision to make. If he has "big guns", do you throw it all on this album and make it strong and forget about CD Vol.2, or do you fill it with some mediocrity that pleases segments of your fanbase even though the quality will suffer?

I wouldn't put it past Axl to save some of his "big guns" for other albums. He already had Don't Cry, November Rain, and You Could Be Mine before Appetite came out, and those ended up being the biggest hits off the illusion albums. And any of those 3 songs could have easily been on AFD. He says he has a total of 36 songs right now i think?? I'm sure we have yet to hear at lot of potential classic songs. I'd be happy with him releasing everything he's already played for us thus far.. That would be a kickass album, IMO.

Not gonna happen.
I am 100 percent sure Maddy will be on the album, so get used to that idea.

No room for filler. Madagascar is about as close to filler as you can get.
Obviously there are many different opinions on here, but hoping Madagascar isnt on the album isnt a popular one.
I dont really love the song myself..I think the lyrics are cheesy..Singing about the water/shore, seasons...He's already
done that...Change them up, get rid of all the sampling except MLK and he has a great song musically.
I think im with the consensus in that Maddie is way better than CD....
What will make the most successful album is what the majority of people want...Not what I want or you want on there...
From all the reviews Ive read on here, other GNR forums, gossip forums, etc Id say THE PEOPLE rank the songs as followed:
Better, The Blues: 9 out of 10
CITR: 8.5
TWAT: 8-8.5
Maddie: 7.5-8
IRS: 7-7.5
CD: 6-7
OMG:5
RHiad, Silkworms:
lower then 5...pick a number
My personaly ratings would like different.

What are you a fucking insider now? Go get in the back of the fake insider line that stretches a light year across. You cant be "100 percent sure" it makes the album. That is ludicrous. The only songs pretty much guaranteed to make the cut are his 3 favorites. But those aren't even guarantees. As I've already said, a 7 or 8 track EP would be much better than a 13 track album that has 7 or 8 good songs. We are looking for quality, not quantity. Its a weak track, and you will admit it yourself whenever Axl does an interview discussing these songs, and how he feels about each song. Just like how everyone called people fucksticks, fags, pussies, etc. who referred to this band as new GNR. Now that Axl calls them that, its the coolest thing in the world.
It is weak lyrically(thats not even open to debate), music's average, and those clips ruin any potential the song had. CITR blows this turd right out of the water. There's a very good chance Madagascar doesn't make the album. Get used to the idea.
