it`s really strange...  it`s not the song itself that i love...it`s the feeling it gives me...

This song is really strange. It doesn't appear to be as good as the other new ones. But it get?s to me in a very weird way, scary almost. It makes me cry and I don't know why.

I think a cool idea for a video would be Axl playing piano in a field of rye with children playing arund him near the edge of a cliff. How about that?

Starting at 4min 19 seconds....As good as any lyrics he's written...simply amazing.? Seems he? singing to Mark Chapman from 4:19 on.? But the previous versus he was singing as he was Mark Chapman i.e. in the first person.

Maybe i am wrong but I love it....

On an ordinary day
Not in an ordinary way
All at once this song I heard
No longer would it play for anybody
Or anyone
That needed comfort from somebody
Needed comfort from someone who cared
To be
Not like you
Unlike me
And then the boy took that away, from me
So that it set the wheels in motion
Haunts our memories
You were the instrument
You were the one
How a body took the body
Gave that boy a gun
Took our innocence
Beyond our stance
Some type of moment
There you got it
All alone with her (hurt?) today

Thanks James  ( you were right..i made changes to the above lyrics per the CITR lyric thread)

You got a few verses wrong, but I'm not trying to start a debate about it. Go check out the CITR lyrics thread. ok

Why the hell not? Take that picture, throw a few blood drops on it, put it on the cover of the single, and GNR are talked about on every news show around the world.

Not sure about this.

Seems odd to market something based on the murder of a guy who promoted peace.

But that is just me.  Cool

They should have put CITR on the "End of Days" soundtrack, easily the best song of the past 10+ years.

Kinda like wearing a Charlie Manson t-shirt and doing a cover of one of his tunes??? Wink

Axl has never been one to steer clear of controversy.  I think the photo idea would be too obvious though, i think something more sublte, a lennon reference.....maybe the IMAGINE brick thingy in strawberry fields with some blood on it.....now that would be f'ed up! haha

If Catcher in the Rye is played live, I guess atleast one of the other band members has learnt Brians parts. It also mean Brain May can jump on stage and join in if he happens to be around (possibly at some up and coming gigs)

The song is catchy...that's for certain. Definitely reminds me of "Yesterday" meets "Hey, Jude" with a little, dare I say, Santana flare to it (which is not a bad thing). My one critique would be that the part that starts "You decide..." is SO FN' KILLER that I wish it would pop up again near the end of the song. Best part IMO.

Axl cannot put that photograph of Lennon signing the autograph of MDC on the cover of this single. He probably will get some grief from Lennon fans who think the song is in bad taste: beatles (hey jude) type melody about the mind of a Beatle killer. Further celebritizing Chapman is not something the world needs. The film Chapter 27 will do alot for this embattled killer than he deserves already.

The song is great and I hope Axl can explain more why this song tributes Lennon.

This song works so well for me b/c in addition to the light, perky sound, the subject matter and POV of the song is pretty dark - its just such a complex song - I love the contrast. ?

The song is about Lennon's killer. I wonder why. Axl wore a mansion shirt during the UYI tour. Maybe he has a thing for killers. Blind Melon have written the best song about a killer (Ed Gein) 'Skinned' from the 'Soup' album. Cacther in the Rye has similar sounds in it that Blind Melon used to use (oh). On the subject of songs about killers, Slayer have a good one too called 'Dead Skin Mask' also about Ed Gein, subject matter aside, it is a killer of a song  Grin

In this case, the victim was a cultural icon with a huge fanbase. There are no doubt more people who could potentially get offended about a MDC song than for the two families who suffered at the hands of Ed Gein.
