I think this song is going to have a November Rain effect on people. Most people did not like NR when they first heard it, people were like WTF is this? Then the more you hear it, the better understanding you had of it. I think the same will hold true for CITR for the people that dont like it. This song shows how much Axl has matured.? The song when its a real song and not a demo is going to blow the doors off NR, just watch. This song is simply amazing.

i agree totally, this song has huge potential and is one of the best songs i have ever heard, period.

The more I listen to these demos the more I like them.  CITR is Awesome and hard to stop listening to.  It gives you a good taste of how Axl has updated things, new sounds, layering, etc. but in a very tasteful way.  This sounds is hard to get out of your head and I can see alot of people really getting into this one after they hear it on CD.....it is very very catchy IMO

Catcher wasn't mindblowing, but every song on an album can't be. It grooved, the vocals were cool, and it was different from the others which gave it it's own cool sort of identity. In fact, the four songs to be leaked and cleaned up (Better, IRS, Catcher, There Was a Time) are all different in their own way, which I like. Catcher isn't a favorite, but when it's on the album I'll be grooving along to it.

Very melodic with a strong content. This song not only means something but it is a bit risky since it is about the murderer of a music icon. I think critics will appreciate it for taking a chance and being one of the more literate songs to come alone in quite some time.

Give Catcher a read and check back. There is alot being said on this track.

That's a really interesting aspect of the whole thing that I haven't seen discussed that much here.  I was actually thinking that there could be a negative response from some people, because it is kind of a narration of chapman's thoughts.  When I first heard about this song I kind of thought it was going to be more about Lennon and it would deal more with the aftermath of the killing and how it created a void in alot of people's lives.  I think some might say that it is just feeding Chapman's ego because part of the reason he said that he killed lennon was because of identity issues and how when he killed lennon, everyone would know his name and he wouldn't be a nobody anymore.  Well with a song being written about him, I could see some people making the argument that this song is in Chapman's mind, lending even more creedence to his horrible act.

I dunno, should be interesting to see what peoples reactions to it will be though. We all know Axl has a way of stirring up controversy.

The Hey Jude type melody could be viewed as packaging up the story of a Beatle killer in a Beatle melody. Some could take offense at that.

I don't think it's the best song, but it is one of the catchiest tunes.. I was kind of walking around humming it today.

I doubt it. The "na-na's" are a completely different melody. There's been a million pop songs modeled after beatles hits. I think this is obviously different enough that it will garner the respect and attention it deserves.

Catcher in the Rye" is a great track .. I was pretty surprised to find a mix of it in my inbox this week .... after all these years. I wonder who leaked this stuff. Yes, my guitar is there, nice and crisply recorded. It was a blast doing the sessions. I had flown out to LA specially to play on the record for Axl. I've sat on whatever I have or know about these songs ever since that moment .... out of respect for Axl .... confidentiality is part of respect for me. So I will watch with interest. I like the track a lot and always did ... and it still sounds very fresh ... the thing that hits you first is that incredible, incredible voice ... we've been missing it for far too long. Axl is magic.

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

I've changed my mind. I thin what happend was that I was sept off my feet by the first 55 seconds of this song becsue the more I listen to it the more I feel it's not as good as the other 3 leaks. Funny how in my excitemnet I claimed that "it blows TWAT outta the water" Not so anymore. Here's how I'd rank the new leaks:

1. Better(way out in front)
2. IRS & TWAT(it's a tie)
4. Catcher in the Rye

bono, I agree.  It now bores the shit out of me.  It loses me.  Its like an Elton John song with Brian May on guitars.  Doesn't work for me.  Oh well.  Bring on the rocker I have been waiting for!

I gave it a 6.5/10 at first. Now I can't get the song out of my head at work. Upgraded to a good 7.5/10!

Better retains it's 9/10 rating, awesome awesome song!

hihi Me either. Besides, most of these guys are guessing anyways. These demos are pretty old, and its likely Paul Huge is playing on them instead of Richard. Better and maybe IRS being the exception , of course.

on the 1st listen, TWAT, IRS, BETTER are better. Maybe in a weeks time, my mind will change. Catcher in the Rye is too slow for my liking, it reminds of the something the Beatles might do all be it heavier than the Beatles, and i've never really rated the Beatles all that much. I think i like OMG more than Catcher on the Rye, even the speed of Silk Worms puts Catcher in the Rye in the lowest position of all the CD stuff i have heard.

because this has been described for years as a "big gun" i always imagined it as an anthemic, fast rocker.  the fact that it is mid tempo and like a cross between led zep "down by the seaside" and "yesterdays" threw me off at first but i think this is a really great song.  i cant say it is better than TWAT but it is a great track.
