I think it ranks alongside 'My World' as the worst track Guns have ever put their name to.

 Huh

This is just baffling to me...What about it do you think is so bad?

The weakest song yet IMHO.

how in the world can you call that song WEAK?! Shocked
it's a friggin' masterpiece! are you def or something?

I think it ranks alongside 'My World' as the worst track Guns have ever put their name to.

For sure, but I'd add Silkworms. I can't believe there is so much praise for this song, since it doesn't have a moment to remember. I'd understand if D loved this song, since CITR is like a weaker Bon Jovi track, but c'mon, it's Guns N' Roses, or at least the name is the same! ?Undecided ?What were your favourite GN'R tunes, Just Another Sunday and Yesterdays? Cause it's an uninspired version of those... ?It's the same pointless crap that's been played on mainstream radio stations... ?C'mon.... ?confused

I thought it was the weakest of the 4 leaks so far. ?It's OK but I'm sure it will grow on me.

It sounds bloody awful. It's dreary. The vocals are weak.

Listening to the clean version or the hissy version, I wonder?

The weakest song yet IMHO. I like it, don't get me wrong... it just isn't what I am looking for in a GnR song. If I want mellow Beatles throw backs I will listen to someone whom does it a little more naturally.

That's where I feel a lot of division on the new material will begin.? If someone has a set idea of what a GN'R song should sound like, then I fear they will not like a fair portion of the new material.

It's my personal belief that you're doing yourself and the material you're listening to a disservice by going into listening to it with a particular expectation of the sound.? It's obvious that Axl's vision for GN'R is to be an evolving entity, free from absolute classifications.? Therefore, I believe that it's time to let go of expectations for what GN'R should sound like.

That's just how I feel, and I think that it's helping me to appreciate the new songs on their own merits.

Ali

Not releasing the album under the GNR name would cure this issue. ?But I don't wanna open up that can of worms. nervous

After reading through this thread, it seems like 85-90% of the people like this song, how was the reaction to the other leaks? I'd check it myself, but I would have to read like 150 pages (anyone who's done that? Smiley)

I listened to a clean version.

I apologise, but I truly hope Axl has some decent tunes in the bank.

I'd say about the same.

About the same % of people wanting AFD or UYI, or just not digging that particular song.

What IS interesting is that, of those just not digging a particular song, MOST of them HAVE liked one (or more) of the others.

That speaks well for the album, IMHO.

Here's my question, where did the cleaner version come from?  Did someone just clean up the other one?  Or does no one know?

See, here's the thing:

For a good majority of us, he's proven he does. ?You certainly don't need to apologize for your opinion, but, at this point, I think it's pretty obvious most don't share it....that being the case, it looks like Axl is on the right track.

YOU might, in the minority apparently, disagree, but.....well....it sounds like you're looking for AFD all over again....or at least the "sound" of AFD. ? Stick with VR, if that's the case (and I'm being serious) because you're going to like their material much more. ?

DunkinDave I believe cleaned it up.

He must have done a nice job of it (my clean version is still downloading), because the first version sounded like it was from a tape source, but I got the link to the cleaner version from another board, and people there were talking about how the clean version sounds on par with the Better demo.

It's not 1987, or 1992 for that matter,  anymore.  If you're expecting any of the new stuff to sound "like Gnr" (which would mean like AFD or like UYI) you're going to be disappointed.

I think "There Was A Time" sounds very much like a UYI track, same for "The Blues" and "Catcher In The Rye" to some extent.  "CITR" reminds me a little of The Shins' "Saint Simon," though Im almost positive that its more coincidence than inspiration.

The more rocking songs, however, do sound a bit more "alternative" than classic GNR rockers.  Oddly enough, theres some parts of those songs that recall Stone Temple Pilots to me (STP even used similar drum loops in their later days).  The falsetto intro/outro lines in "Better" sound like some of Korns vocals.

Some one just cleaned it up for the clean version considering that the origional version was sourced from what appears to be a cassette. ?

I love this tune, its like yesterdays mixed with queen. ?I doubt that is the final vocal considering that it appears to be done pre 2001 without bucket. ?
