VERY curious to hear what young gunners (under 22-25ish) will think of this tune. ?I really can't recall a modern rock song in the last decade that has sounded anything like this song.

Well, I'm 20, but I've always been into Queen, Elton John, Aerosmith, the "classic" stuff. It may just be the heat of the moment, but this is one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's just so breathtakingly strong...

OMG, it's crap. ?Undecided ?It'd be the experimental music? A big gun? It's worse than Sentimental Movie. I can't believe Axl made this song. It must be a demo in a very early stage cause this song is so weak that it cannot be on CD. No more leaks, please, I start to lose my interest again.

Best song yet!
Hmmm, I cant make that call yet. Unfortunately, my girlfriend is asleep so I cant play it really loud. But the song sounds amazing. I cant wait to play this on my stereo tomorrow morning. From what I can hear, its up there with The Blues as a masterpiece.

Lofters, break out headphones and listen to it loud... It's the best one yet.

It is much better then the Blues IMO.

Yeah. It should be interesting to see. Well beings Guns fans they shouldnt hate it. But non GNR fans who are younger may just turn the other way.

Because they need to be educated, and fix their ears after years of listening to that fucking bullshit "yo,yo,ya mama"

Hey man, take it easy. That stuff is poetry and then they rap it out in rhymes. Its quality art!

Ok some of it can be labeled as art, with the poetry and all that.
But the music in the back? That's Art? hihi

Bask in it (But not in a desperate Mr. Intensity way).    beer

His noble response to the departure from mygnr shows that he would never act in such a way IMO. Plenty of couth to go around it seems???

agreed, i wasn't worried about that happening Smiley

So what's this...9...10 tracks we have heard off Chinese Democracy (including the live songs from '02)?

Kind of scary. I can't imagine management no making an official statement now. We will almost have the whole album.

But saying this...every fucking song is great and each one sounds nothing like the other ( I of course am pretending Silkworms doesn't exist much like Godfather 3...and who the fuck knows when Rhiad will ever come o the party).

This is good stuff. So fucking proud to be a GNR fan...and I am so fucking proud of Axl. I mean he did it. He's crafted some awesome music. These 4 demo tracks are real showcases.

IRS, TWAT, CITR, Better, Maddy, The Blues, CD.

Those are the safest bet to be ont he album.. The other two I doubt.

im 21 and think this song is pretty good...I love the diversity of all the songs

the final production on all these songs is all thats left. If the band hit a homer with the production of the songs, then this will be the 1 of the best albums of the past 20 yrs and for yrs to come...it all comes down to the production now......the songs are all there...the band did it!...Axl did it!...

We've heard 10 songs from the Chinese Democracy sessions so far.

Likely to be on Chinese Democracy

Better
Catcher In The Rye
Chinese Democracy
IRS
Madagascar
The Blues
There Was a Time

Unlikely to be on Chinese Democracy

Oh My God
Riyadh and The Bedouins
Silkworms

We have heard over half of the songs from the album (13 tracks) so far.

Crazy.

Phenomenal song.

Booker, correct me if I'm mistaken, but is this the first comment you've made on the boards regarding any of the recent tracks? If so, I'm curious to hear what you thought of the others.

Yeah, is this the first one you thought was worth commenting on?

Actually no, I just think these threads are so long and diluted that its tough to keep up with the discussion.

Ive heard all of the demos, and I like them all a lot.  This ("Catcher In The Rye") really caught me off guard.  Axl really created a melodic stunner with this one.  The Queen and Elton John comparisons are appropriate...And I dont know if anybody mentioned the intro vocal line, which is nearly identical to "Madagascar"s.  The breakdown (around the 2 minute mark) sounds like it could have come straight out of a new wave song.  On paper, that sounds atrocious - new wave in a GNR song.  But it works big-time.  The whole song does - great verses, great background vocal melodies, fantastic ending.  The workings of a true GNR classic.

I feel about as strongly about "There Was A Time."  The intro isnt good, but Ill chalk that up as a mere demo drawback and hope its improved on the final mix.  I was shaky on the chorus at first, but Ive warmed up to it.  The extended guitar break is great and I really like the "there was a time, didnt want to know it all" refrain.  The screaming ("I would do anything for you") is fantastic.  Theres strong shades of "Estranged."  Axl sounds great on all of these demos.  If I were to nitpick, Id question the inclusion of drum loops and such.  They might only exist for demo purposes, but I think the songs would work perfectly without them.  Theyre ultimately unnecessary.  But if theyre not overdone, they might not diminish my enjoyment of the tracks much at all.

"Better" is a good track.  The intro reminds me a little of Rage Against The Machines "Year Of The Boomerang."  The robotic guitar that comes in after the stop-gap part is pretty cool and, again, a damn fine ending (although they could have ended after one "No one ever told me..." instead of two).  I really dig the second solo (I believe its Robin Finck).  Aside from the switch-up in the middle, this sounds like something that couldve played on rock radio in 1996, which is a pretty good thing in my view.

And my feelings are similar for "I.R.S.," which oddly enough feels "old."  Very cool song.

So Im generally feeling very good about these tracks; theyve restored my interest in the album, which was almost non-existent for a period.  I think Axl would do a lot to squelch further links (or at least widespread listening) if he would just give a time-frame for the albums release.  So far, its looking damn good.

You might be right. But The Blues really 'speaks' to me. Its such a brilliant song lyrically. I'm trying to find my headphones so I can blare this song. But fuck, I never use headphones much. I remember when the first leak happened, me and mike kidding you guys about those 'magic headphones'. hihi Now I'm having to find some myself. hihi

Scanning through the various forums, there are asshats saying they "can't believe Axl would write crap like this" and shit, WTF! There comes a point when you have to admit a song's quality. This song is a piece of art. I understand taste is subjective, but this song is made of the stuff that we love about music. This is a classic in the making...
