He must have done a nice job of it (my clean version is still downloading), because the first version sounded like it was from a tape source, but I got the link to the cleaner version from another board, and people there were talking about how the clean version sounds on par with the Better demo.

Whoever did it did a marvelous job. ?It's miles better, and I agree, it sounds on par with the Better demo.

You can tell it's cleaned up because it has the same dropout about 4:40.

The weakest song yet IMHO. I like it, don't get me wrong... it just isn't what I am looking for in a GnR song. If I want mellow Beatles throw backs I will listen to someone whom does it a little more naturally.

That's where I feel a lot of division on the new material will begin.  If someone has a set idea of what a GN'R song should sound like, then I fear they will not like a fair portion of the new material.

It's my personal belief that you're doing yourself and the material you're listening to a disservice by going into listening to it with a particular expectation of the sound.  It's obvious that Axl's vision for GN'R is to be an evolving entity, free from absolute classifications.  Therefore, I believe that it's time to let go of expectations for what GN'R should sound like.

That's just how I feel, and I think that it's helping me to appreciate the new songs on their own merits.

Ali

Not releasing the album under the GNR name would cure this issue.  But I don't wanna open up that can of worms. nervous

The way I see it, that is a completely dead issue.  GN'R will follow Axl's vision, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

Having already accepted that to be the way it is, I presented those thoughts in my earlier post in this thread.

Some one just cleaned it up for the clean version considering that the origional version was sourced from what appears to be a cassette. ?

I love this tune, its like yesterdays mixed with queen. ?I doubt that is the final vocal considering that it appears to be done pre 2001 without bucket. ?

I think it's been speculated that Brian May is playing on it....right? ?That would date it pretty conclusively if true.

Yeah I know, but I really hope Brian May's guitar will stay on there!

It sounds bloody awful. It's dreary. The vocals are weak.

Dreary?  Considering that this is the most upbeat Guns N' Roses song I can think of offhand, Id say thats an odd adjective to use.  As for the vocals, they sound fine to me but you do recognize that its a fairly rough demo.

Well of course it's a dead issue....to us diehards. ?But to the mass public? ?Unfortunatley no.

But I digress, I'm totally off-topic.

I get a Smashing Pumpkins vibe (in a good way) from Better personally.

CITR could have been released in 1975. I didn't think people were capable of making music with that "classic 70's feel" w/o making an a$$ of themselves... especially in a flamboyant Queen/Elton John style (as opposed to the more well travelled Zepelin or Stones style). Axl proved me very wrong. I LOVE this song... definitely my favorite so far. All I can say is congratulations Axl. ok

Well, I must agree with pilferk...

If you're looking for AFD go to VR for that. It's the closest you'll get.

These new songs aren't AFD type songs. They are UYI era songs if anything and I don't think they are so much even to that.

These new songs are fresh, and sound like nothing else out there. CD will be huge, not from assumption or opinion, but from just knowing it in my gut.

CD starts soon!

"soon" ?hihi

I AM NOT READING 28 FUCKING PAGES!!!! rofl

so i appologise if it's been said before

but i like the heavier/industrial side of things we've heard so far

OMG, IRS, TWAT, Better, CD, Maddy hell even Silkworms seem to fit together nicely and hope that they will define the sound of CD

CITR and The Blues seem like another band and another time confused Undecided

that being said CITR is a good song, but IMO we've been there and done that, i didn't wait 12 years to have UYI3 no

CITR is a great song. It has a classic, yet modern feel to it.

It doesn't fit into another time. It will be a nice filler as a mellow track on CD.

there are parts about catcher that i absolutely love and parts that just dont seem right, like the electronic and synth part at like 2:10 in the song and the chorus. Solo is great so is the verse. very beatle-ish

totally disagree....the synth/robot sounds of Better are out of place and wierd sounding.....in CITR they flow and mesh so well, it sounds very natural.   CITR is the most well put together of all the leaks so far.

But I think studio "the blues" is going to be the best song on CD.

This song is without a doubt a Big Gun, The song already is huge just for a demo, just wait until its finished and all the meat is added. The orchrastion on this song is going to be amazing.

I was just thinking,

this song has Soundtrack written all over it.

I hope that somebody picks it up for a film.

I mean, hell, if they don't and I get to make a film one day, then I'm definatly going to.

Yes, catcher in the rye is great, I think it's my favorit song out of all of them. A CD with final versions of the CITR, Better, The Blues, Chinese Democracy and Madagascar would be great.
