OMG, it's crap.?
? It'd be the experimental music? A big gun? It's worse than Sentimental Movie. I can't believe Axl made this song. It must be a demo in a very early stage cause this song is so weak that it cannot be on CD. No more leaks, please, I start to lose my interest again.

?You're such a wise guy ?
What I downloaded was this song. And there is nothing in this. Axl sounds really bad and there isn't a single good idea. Totally boring and nothing like a child couldn't write and play. I like Better and IRS, I think TWAT is mediocre (with a potential to be better), but this song has no potential, it sounds like a boy band from the 50s or the 60s. Pure crap, if you didn't know it's an Axl song, you'd say the same.

I really enjoy CITR, it didn't have to grow on me the way that TWAT did. Very melodic ...

I truly don't think we'll be able to label any of the new songs, let alone just the leaks and bootlegs, as the "best" song. They are all soooo different and appeal to you on so many different levels that its impossible to say which one is better then the next, at least to me.
I wonder though, will this be the kind of disc you put on to listen to from track A to Z? or the kind you throw on to hear a particular song or two to match your mood.
If its a double CD release I hope one is full of rockers, the other full of TWAT, CITR, blues etc... type songs.

VERY curious to hear what young gunners (under 22-25ish) will think of this tune.? I really can't recall a modern rock song in the last decade that has sounded anything like this song.
Im 18 and like another here, I've been listening to lots of classic rock and bands of that sort for ages. I really like the song, very diverse and I definately hear the Beatles/Queen influence everyone is talking about. It would be interesting to see how younger fans of modern rock/emo bands would like the song.

If I didn't know this was Axl,and I heard it on the radio or some shit I would think it's better than pretty much anything else being played in the mainstream

I know this is not the best song ? but it is becoming my favorite ?of the leaked songs because ?it flows smoothly ? meaning it doesn't sound forced. ?I know these are just demos ? but in the other songs ?the transitions don't seem to fit at times . ? Can't wait to hear the album version. ? ?

This song is like a throw back to the 60s and 70s, its an amazing demo, and did you even listen to the lyrics? They are some of Axls best ever. The song sounds like something Mercury or Lennon would have written.

Scanning through the various forums, there are asshats saying they "can't believe Axl would write crap like this" and shit, WTF! There comes a point when you have to admit a song's quality. This song is a piece of art. I understand taste is subjective, but this song is made of the stuff that we love about music. This is a classic in the making...
Agreed.
There is plenty of talent that I admit is talent, even if I do not like the format in which is is presented.

Phenomenal song.
Booker, correct me if I'm mistaken, but is this the first comment you've made on the boards regarding any of the recent tracks? If so, I'm curious to hear what you thought of the others.
Yeah, is this the first one you thought was worth commenting on?
Booker I've been around quite a while. and I remember how negative u used to be at one point but mostly with valid reasons. It's so kewl isnt it, to acutally have something worth being positive towards to talk about
The song Rocks btw.. fuck!!!
Actually no, I just think these threads are so long and diluted that its tough to keep up with the discussion.
Ive heard all of the demos, and I like them all a lot. This ("Catcher In The Rye") really caught me off guard. Axl really created a melodic stunner with this one. The Queen and Elton John comparisons are appropriate...And I dont know if anybody mentioned the intro vocal line, which is nearly identical to "Madagascar"s. The breakdown (around the 2 minute mark) sounds like it could have come straight out of a new wave song. On paper, that sounds atrocious - new wave in a GNR song. But it works big-time. The whole song does - great verses, great background vocal melodies, fantastic ending. The workings of a true GNR classic.
I feel about as strongly about "There Was A Time." The intro isnt good, but Ill chalk that up as a mere demo drawback and hope its improved on the final mix. I was shaky on the chorus at first, but Ive warmed up to it. The extended guitar break is great and I really like the "there was a time, didnt want to know it all" refrain. The screaming ("I would do anything for you") is fantastic. Theres strong shades of "Estranged." Axl sounds great on all of these demos. If I were to nitpick, Id question the inclusion of drum loops and such. They might only exist for demo purposes, but I think the songs would work perfectly without them. Theyre ultimately unnecessary. But if theyre not overdone, they might not diminish my enjoyment of the tracks much at all.
"Better" is a good track. The intro reminds me a little of Rage Against The Machines "Year Of The Boomerang." The robotic guitar that comes in after the stop-gap part is pretty cool and, again, a damn fine ending (although they could have ended after one "No one ever told me..." instead of two). I really dig the second solo (I believe its Robin Finck). Aside from the switch-up in the middle, this sounds like something that couldve played on rock radio in 1996, which is a pretty good thing in my view.
And my feelings are similar for "I.R.S.," which oddly enough feels "old." Very cool song.
So Im generally feeling very good about these tracks; theyve restored my interest in the album, which was almost non-existent for a period. I think Axl would do a lot to squelch further links (or at least widespread listening) if he would just give a time-frame for the albums release. So far, its looking damn good.

Whew, got it! This song rocks - Obviously not complete, with the vocals and such, but it's wonderful I'm loving the variety of these tunes. I love the floaty feel... almost Yesterdays-ish with a Queen feel.
Thanks again guys!!

People that are expecting Appetitte 2 ?this is not the album for you. ? Axl is not a kid living on the streets anymore. ?he grew up. ? Axl is bringing back melodic rock ?and great lyrics. ? If you don't like it go listen to Korn , Linkin Park ?etc. ? This album is going to have something for everybody ( all age groups). ? I don't think this album is going to have more than 4 hard rock songs ? which is fine with me ? as long as the songs kick ass and have great guitar ?I'll be happy. ? I have a feeling Axl's 2nd album is going to be more straight up rock ? ?I just have a feeling. ?
