Guns N' Roses Welcome To The Jungle has topped a new poll to find the greatest song about Los Angeles.

The 1987 hit beat NWA's Straight Outta Compton and The Eagles' New Kid In Town to claim the number one spot in Blender magazine's 25 Greatest Songs About LA.

The top five is:
1. "Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns N? Roses

Small-town kid hits streets of L.A., smells teen spirit, vomit, blood

Just when M?tley Cr?e were toasting the joys of Sunset titty bars, this hurricane of a song swept in from the darker side of the Strip: a sneering gutter-howl from ill-nocturnal Hollywood, a place where ??if you got the money, honey, we got your disease.?? Axl Rose knew whereof he screeched. Living broke in a Sunset crash pad dubbed ?Hell House,? the band spent years on the lower rungs of the local economy ? they scammed girlfriends, some sold drugs ? blending outsider perspective (Indiana-born Rose was the hayseed transplant he played in the ?Jungle? video) with seamy images they collected as genuine L.A. lowlifes. The song?s intensity implies that their jungle was a glimpse into an apocalyptic future.

Most L.A. Thing About Them: Like a true mogul, Rose has burned through $13 million on a project that, at press time, was still unreleased: the chimerical sixth GN?R album, Chinese Democracy.

2. "Straight Outta Compton" - NWA
3. "New Kid In Town" - The Eagles
4. "Free Fallin" - Tom Petty
5. "Malibu" - Courtney Love

The greatest song ever written about L.A. is "L.A. Woman".

The fact that "Malibu" by Courtney Love is in the top 5 and "L.A. Woman" isn't should be hint number one that this list is going to be worthless.

Pretty much any song from AFD would be a contender for best song about LA.

But I also like Neil Young's LA.  "LA.  City in the smog.  Don't you wish that you could  be here too."

From what I remember, AXL said at the RITZ show in 1988 that it is about NY. ?He said one day when he was hitchhiking up from INDIANA he and a friend (maybe IZZY) were dumped off along the side of a highway here in NYC, he thinks it was in the BRONX. ?It was then that "they came across a little, old black guy who said to them...Ya know where the fuck you are...you in the jungle. " ?AXL also said "that's a true story, that aint no lie."

This is stupid, the song is about New York, when Axl got off the bus in Harlem.

My opinion the best song about LA is Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under the Bridge"

Axl wrote the song in Seattle, because it was the biggest city he had seen at the time. then when he got to LA he was woow, this is big.

The only part about New York was about the black man saying "Do you know where you are, you're in the jungle baby, you gonna die."

I remember reading something about this in a magazine I have,, if I find it I will post.

Well, as someone pointed out, the whole "Do you know where you are... You're in the Jungle" thing came from NY before the song was written.
