I do my own stuff but, i'm always looking for new drum machines and anything that can give me beats.  Is there anybody else that has this problem? i like using the workstations but, as a solo musician would pro tools be the way to go? your thoughts

Pro Tools is good DAW software, but it doesn't have anything built in for doing beats.   I recommend Reason for all your drum/loop/synth needs.  Reason can work within Pro Tools, and Pro Tools is good for recording.  It's not the absolute best recording software out there, but it's the industry standard, and everything else works with it, which is why I recommend it.

If you're looking for a complete solution to get started, including the hardware and software you'd need, I'd highly recommend the MBox 2, which cost around $400-$500.  It includes USB based input/output hardware, Pro Tools, a version of Reason, as well as a bunch of other useful plugins.

I only used Fruitloops and that sucked. Also, I was too stupid to figure it out how to work properly - and most of the times I have no problem to learn something like this. Sad
