Cool. They were on SNL last night too. Pretty awesome. They're the next big thing in my opinion. Well as far as "Big" can get these days. Coldplay is on the outs I believe and The Killers are the "It" band now. Thank god they're actually really good. In my opinion they are the one new band right now that seems to have some staying power. Time will tell I guess.

Anyone notice how the guitar was practically inaudible during "when you were young?" I'm sure it wasn't the band's fault, but still, they looked a bit silly. I was really looking forward to the album, but all the reviews are really butchering the thing, and my expectations have lowered as a result. I really like the first single, and hope to be pleasantly surprised...

The only really bad review I've seen so far of it has been "drumroll" those dipshits at Rolling Stone.? It claims that they're trying to imitate Springsteen and drop the new wave that brought them to the ball game.? Well they hit it on the head, but is that such a bad thing?? If the music is still good why not give it a chance right.? The idiots at Rolling Stone have dumbed that magazine down so much in the past few years, it's not even funny.? They give 4-5 star reviews of shit like Nelly and Limp Bizkits and Beyonce, yet put down The Killers, GNR, Dylan and so many other awesome bands.? The funny thing is that they will still end up putting them on the cover when they sell a shitload of records.? I think all self-respecting bands should boycot that shit rag.? I'm not saying that out of spite, I just think it's to the point where it has no purpose to even exist anymore other than to smear the poser emo/rap/nu-metal shit that the little kiddies soak up.

I read the Rolling Stone review after reading bill213's post and it is excessively harsh. I've only listened to the album twice so far, but I can't really agree with the RS review. The only thinking I will agree with is that it is a little disappointing that they abandoned the dancey synth pop sound on Hot Fuss, but it is still a good album. So far I don't think any individual tracks stand out like some from Hot Fuss do. I can't really figure out what the singles will be because none of them seem to grab you right away, but as a collection of songs its very good. I think this is one of those albums that is a grower. The more you listen to it the better it sounds. The 2 Best Buy bonus tracks are also good.

The funny thing now since I bought the album this morning and listened to it.........is that I really only see the Springsteen influence in about 2 songs. When You Were Young & The River Is Wild are about the only Springsteenish songs on there. The rest have a very smiliar synth feel to them. I think Rolling Stone just has a wild hair up their ass for the Killers. Like I said, give it a month or two and they'll be on the cover again. Anyhow my only gripe about this album is..........It's too short. They shouldn't have released those extra tracks as bonus, just put them on the album already. The good news is that the video for the song "Bones" has been directed by Tim Burton and it's supposed to be out around Halloween. I think that is the one grower song right there. It's cool though and the video should be awesome.

I just had to add that the last two Dylan albums got 5 out 5's in RS. The one before that got a 4. So I don't think that's "putting down Dylan."

I really like the new album!
at first I also had this impression the songs weren't as catchy as in Hot Fuss but once I listened to it more it got better
now I really like Bling, Bones, Uncly Jonny and Read My Mind.. so that's a lot for an album that I first thought was lacking of hits..

I love how ever since Axl said good things about The Killers, suddenly people here aren't labeling them as a boy band anymore.
If Axl said My Chemical Romance was a great band tomorrow everyone would be kissing their asses.
I really liked parts of Hot Fuss and think they're a good rock band, but the new album doesn't really stand out too much IMO.

Hey buddy. Some of us where getting canned in here for liking them when Hot Fuss came out. Mr Brightside for me was one of the best songs of the last 5 years.
The new album is gonna be a classic. Not as many out and out anthems but some awesome guitar and meloides. and on the whole better songs than the first album
I can hear U2 and Springsteen in this album and that can only be a good thing. . . The first 6 songs run through and every one is a cracker.
Gotta be one of the best bands in the world at the moment. Can't wait til Glastonbury lets hope i can get tickets

Mrs. Version is a huge fan. We're going to see them in Detroit and Toronto next week. The new album has its moments of glory (Exitlude, Uncle Johnny) but I think that the production ruins it for me. It sounds like there's a layer of... air or something between the music and the listener if that makes any sense. When I heard that they were working with Flood, I cringed because I always felt that Adam Clayton's bass was all but squashed to death on U2's albums. I hear it happening on Sam's Town as well. Still, it's great to hear 'big' songs again. It's not porn rap or shoe-gazing mid-temp heavy rock, so I'll take it.

I wasn't a big fan of the Killers until just this past week. I only liked five songs off of Hot Fuss ("Jenny Was a Friend of Mine", "Mr. Brightside", "Smile Like You Mean It", "All These Things That I've Done", and "Change Your Mind"). I thought the album would have been a great EP but I thought only half of their stuff was good enough to be on any album.
That being said, I bought Sam's Town on the strength of "When You Were Young" (sounded like a cross between The Cure, Billy Joel, and Queen) and I fuckin' love that album! Two or three songs took two listens to grow on me but I absolutely love it all now and I am a rock/funk/blues fan. I don't like most modern music, but this is a great album. I think it will dissapoint a lot of Killers fans as I feel it is a pretty big departure from most (not all) of their other stuff. There's a lot less synth and a lot more guitar (Great bass on that Bling song as well). As version posted a little while ago, the songs are very "big". They are lush and loud and big. All in all I think it far surpasses Hot Fuss. From the opening track to the "exitlude" it is just a fantastic album.

Agreed. Quality album. But some songs need a chance to grow on you. But the first 7/8 songs in particular are just great songs.
Their Live set would be awesome now.
