badass record, but we already have an Alice in Chains thread!!!

anyway its a pretty awesome album i love Rooster, Angry Chair, Would, Them bones.

I love Layne Staley, he wrote some really heartfelt and real lyrics and its a really shame what happened to him.

i hate how Godsmack took their name from one of the songs on this record then proceeded to totally rip off alice in chains in every way,  down to their fucking logo!!

Awesome album. Although listening to it these days it's clear to see Layne was already well on his way to drug addiction when the band recorded this. Still, amazing guitar playing and killer vocal harmonies from Jerry and Layne.

Easily one of the best heavy rock records to come out in the 90's. ok

It's definitely one of the best albums of the 90's but I think it can give most of the great rock albums ever made a run for their money.  Dirt is a very dark album and Alice in Chains at their best.  This album just goes to show how great of a songwriter Jerry Cantrell really was (5 of the 13 songs were written by him; Dam That River, Them Bones, Would, Down in a Hole, Rooster, and another 5 were co-written by him) and how Layne Staley was able to bring those songs alive...amazing fucking rock album.

Layne Staley was already hooked on drugs by the time this album came out as someone had said, "Layne was on his way to drug addicition."  He was already there as was most of the band.  I think I read once that over 60% of AIC lyrics are about Heroin and Dirt is a concept album about the drug, although not every single song on here is specifically about H.  It's an album full of misery and despair and I fucking love it.

One of the best rock albums of all time.  Fact.  Stands up to The Stones, Beatles, The Who, Zeppelin, Sabbath, all of them.

i finally got Facelift and this album is awesome too. the one-two punch of "We Die Young" and "Man in A Box" is killer.

I bought it years and years ago but I am pretty sure they still sell it and it shouldn't be more than like 5-6 bucks.

Yeah I saw them last year and while no one will ever be Layne (possibly the most under rated singer ever) Duvall sounded amazing.

It's an EP but it's got 9 tracks of all original material. It is honestly amazing. I absolutely love everything this band ever did and sometimes I think it might be as good as DIRT, albeit shorter. It's amazing tho man, every track. When you hear it you'll probably recognise some songs as it had a few hits on it.

Alice In Chains recorded its acoustic performance Friday night (August 31) at The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for an upcoming live album. It is likely ? although not officially confirmed ? that the remaining three AIC acoustic shows while on the road with VELVET REVOLVER this summer and fall will also be recorded for the live CD, which is tentatively due in early 2008.

ALICE IN CHAINS's setlist for last night's concert was as follows:

01. Don't Follow
02. Heaven Beside You
03. Brother
04. I Can't Remember
05. Nutshell
06. Killer is Me
07. Love Hate Love
08. Sludge Factory
09. Angry Chair
10. No Excuses
11. Down in a Hole
12. Got Me Wrong

Encore:

13. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (ELTON JOHN cover)
14. Squeeze Box (THE WHO cover)
15. Rooster

Remaining ALICE IN CHAINS "Acoustic Hour" shows (in between regular dates with VELVET REVOLVER):

Sep. 01 - Pageant - St. Louis, MO
Sep. 29 - Antone's - Austin, TX
Oct. 01 - House Of Blues - New Orleans, LA
