From the AIC newsletter:
Alice in Chains is ascending on the horizon...
The band will kick off 2009 with a main stage slot on Australia's Soundwave Festival (Feb 21 - Mar 1) alongside Nine Inch Nails, Lamb of God, Alkaline Trio, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and more. However, more touring isn't the only thing up Alice in Chains' sleeve for 2009.
There's a brand new record on the wayhe band's first studio album since 1995. Right now, Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, Sean Kinney and William Duvall are hunkered down in a Los Angeles studio crafting their latest opus. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Stone Sour), the album promises top be a sonic journey guided by eerily psychedelic solos and unforgettable riffs.
In the meantime, we want to welcome you to a brand new look for ALICEINCHAINS.COM. To coincide with Alice in Chains entering the studio to record their first new album in over 10 years, the official website is getting a massive overhaul.
The site will continue to change and evolve over the course of the next several days, weeks and months, so please bookmark it and continue to check it several times a day until it becomes a distraction at home and begins to affect your performance at work.
As the band commences with the recording of the new album, there will be weekly updates on the site, giving you the inside scoop from the studio via photos, videos, and written accounts. This will continue for as long as the recording takes place, and if some snippets of new material happen to get posted along the way, so be it!
Also new to the site is the vault section, where all things Alice from all eras of Alice will live. It's pretty barren now, but we have a treasure trove of rare items and never before seen photos and video that will slowly build this page into what will eventually be recognized as the single greatest use of the internet since the inception of 1-800-Dentist dot com.
You're also encouraged to submit photos and scans from your own collection to send to us. Pictures, posters, ticket stubs, cell phone video of Jerry buying smokes at 7-11: if we deem it worthy of inclusion in the vault, it'll have a home there for all to see.
In addition to the new site, we've initiated a sale of all Alice in Chains merch. For the next 6 weeks, all merch in OUR STORE is being sold for the same price that we pay to make it. Our cost is your cost...once the designs are sold out, they're gone for good, so go now!
There will be much more to come, so stay very close...

I'm actually kind of interested in this project. They haven't even released an album yet and people are already saying stuff like that. Very disgusting.
How is that different now that Guns n'' roses is without slash, duff and matt sorum?

Have you listened to Degradation Trip double CD he released?
It pretty much sounds like AIC without Layne singing.
I don't see what's so funny about that statement.

Look it, I'm not the biggest AIC fan, but they were a great band and still are, Jerry sounds alot like Layne when hes doing backup vocals, and the new lead is awesome, I seen them when they were opening for Velvet Revolver, and id have to say they blew them away, so im looking forward to a new album

I don't see what's so funny about that statement.
I own/owned Degradation Trip and Boogey Depot
Both sound very much like the self titled AIC album
All three albums sound like shite
In my oh so humble opinion
I cant believe even Mr Cantrell would regard these albums as anything particularly special

Jerry re-mortgaged his house to finance Degradation Trip and went through some pretty tough personal times during the making if that album too, so I'd say he rates it as something special. And that album is much heavier than the self-titled AIC album and has allot better guitar riffs and solos too.
