As much as I don't think anything they do will measure up to the amazing music they created with Layne, who was a brilliant rock singer, I would love to hear any music by Jerry Cantrell. The man is just as gifted as songwriters come. All of his solo stuff is incredible, and he wrote the bulk of AIC material himself.

I cant stand Jerry's solo stuff - i think a new AIC album would just sound like that: bland

I don't understand why they're going to do something like that... I guess it's worth a try, but I would have to agree with the fans, not wanting them to in respect for Layne.
It's like when the Doors tried to pull something like that off ('cept they actually sued for even TRYING that...)

Alice with Phil Anselmo and Duff
Anselmo sounds like a turd compared to Layne...
Im so massively into AIC these days, Layne was just absolutely amazing. and of course, the other guys as well.
I support them releasing a new album, though I wouldn't mind if they did it under another name. anyway, it'll be great to hear those 3 guys release some new music, and Duvall is doing pretty good on vocals. I bet it will kick major ass considering Jerry's singwriting skills!

I can't hold it against the guys for doing what they're doing, but I think hanging on to the AIC name is a misstep. For better or worse, AIC died with Layne.

Eh...Layne sang a lot of their songs, wrote most or all of 'em, and his 2002 solo album was the best thing he ever did...I'm cool with him using the name.

I fucking grew up on Anselmo man! But you're right, Layne smokes him, and many others. Forever I have thought Layne was an amazingly underrated vocal talent. I don't think most people realise until they try to sing one of his songs.

I think you meant to say Jerry. And if you did I agree Degradation Trip 1&2 is a masterpiece and probably my favorite album of this century so far. I don't think we have to worry about Jerry and crew writing a bunch of garbage at an attempt for a cash grab. I think when/if they release something it's going to be pretty quality.

AIC's acoustic (mostly) EPs are what set them apart from the rest of grunge. Jar of Flies and Sap have a beauty to them that very few things can match. Rotten Apple - Nutshell - I Stay Away - etc... man JoF is brilliant. AIX acoustic gets me through the most depressing times of winter, but it's good for the summer too.
