GUNS N' ROSES' manager Merck Mercuriadis has responded to the claims by the EAGLES OF DEATH METAL leader Jesse "The Devil" Hughes that GN'R bassist Tommy Stinson threw down his bass in disgust after Axl Rose went off on the EAGLES after Hughes and Co. opened for GN'R at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena Friday night (Nov. 24). EAGLES OF DEATH METAL took the stage in Cleveland to open the first of what was supposed to be 15 North American dates on the GUNS N' ROSES tour, but exited the trek after just that one performance following an onstage rant by Rose, during which he nicknamed the band "The Pigeons of Shit Metal" before informing his audience that the gig would be the EAGLES' last on the tour.

"When [Rose] called us the 'Pigeons of Shit Metal', Tommy Stinson took his bass off, threw it down and went, 'Fuck you, that's it!' to Axl," Hughes told MTV.com. "And then Axl picked [Stinson's] bass up and threw it at [him]."

Mercuriadis disagreed with Hughes' account. "There is no truth to either claim [that Rose fired a crew member or that Stinson threw down his bass] as evidenced by the fact that our crew remains identical to when the tour started almost six weeks ago, and to say Axl threw a bass at Tommy is pure fiction," he told MTV.com. "The EAGLES OF DEATH METAL were asked to leave the tour not only because GUNS N' ROSES' audience hated them and tore them apart but because they could not handle the response. They were supposed to play a 60-minute set but left the stage after 42 minutes due to the hostile reception. The facts do not support the image they are trying to portray, which is why they are attempting to put this spin on it."

Did anyone at the show see Tommy throw it or walk off (or not walk off as the case may be)?

No one did on any of the reviews I have seen, I tried to put a post on here yesterday as this was reported by NME yesterday but it was deleted - Jarmo said it was B/S.

Good to see GnR camp move quickly to dispel this before it gathers to much momentum. ?Nice fact laden response I thought.

I didn't believe for a second what this band said went on with Tommy and Axl. The reason is that people on these boards who do concert reviews mention almost every detail of the show, I don't think an event like Tommy throwing down his bass and then Axl throwing the bass at Tommy would go un-noticed by these hardcore fans.

I'm sure Axl still has quite a bit of pull in the music business, I hope he uses it to bury this band for spreading these shit rumors about gnr.

By all accounts that would be a tragic waste of bandwidth.

If tommy threw his bass down in disgust at axl and axl threw it at tommy someone surely who was at the show would've mentioned it. I smell complete bullshit here.

I think it's all been set up (between both camps) just to make musical headlines.   I mean, come on, don't you know Jesse Hughes?

Faith No More and Blind Melon got booed every night, and insulted the crowd every night when they opened for Guns, hell, even CKY and they tried to fight some fans during one show and were never asked to leave, so I doubt that played a part.

i cant believe that there is even one person that booed Faith no More. One of the greatest bands of all time.

I was at the Cleveland show and I never saw Tommy throw his bass.  EODM are full of shit.

For me I didn't go into the arena until 9pm and Sebastien Bach finished up his set shortly after.  I was excited as I thought GN'R was next and then I'm suprised to see EODM.  I didn't join in the booing (I went to get more alcohol) but a lot of people were just anxious to see if Axl was going to show and they knew it might be an hour or two after the last of the  opening acts before GN'R took the stage so I don't think EODM had much of a chance to impress the crowd.  They really should have played before Bach as well since Bach is the bigger name and gets the crowd going.

Believe it. Patton even made it a point to talk shit about Axl and GnR onstage and somehow they got to stick around that tour.

Every media source that published that band's story owes GNR an apology for printing crap that could have been easily researched with the media coverage that was at that show.  Merck you should have slammed the media along with that band.  Someone needs to start the fight with the media on this type of shit, might as well be GNR.
