« on: November 27, 2006, 03:41:36 PM »

First everyone, let me just say that this is just me expressing my views regarding the recent statement issued by Merck. I realize that i am new to the site and do not have much expereience, but i feel that i should say something regarding Merck, Chinese Democracy, and GNR.

Recently they issued a statement regarding the cancellation of a GNR concert in Maine. It explained that the show was cancelled due to problems with the fire marshall (if i am wrong here please point it out thanks!). Then they proceeded to call out the fans as people spreading rumors and "Lies" (pardon the pun) about the band. This is what makes me extremely upset. We as fans have no idea what is going on in management, and we have no idea when Chinese Democracy will be released. it has not been revealed when the CD will be released, they have only left us "mysterious clues" such as "it will be released on a tuesday." When we as fans here this, we have no idea when it will be released, so we like to speculate and guess when the album will be released. This is not lying or spreading rumors or anything. This is just us as fans voicing our opinions and guesses about GNR and the album. When our views are censored, arguments, and feelings in the many forums on the internet, we are not allowed to express our views. Saying that we are not censored is absolute bullshit. Many things in this forum have been removed and thrown out because they "violated some unknown policy." Another thing that really really just bothers me is when it is said that the real fans are out at a concert and not in front of a computer. I don't know if it has been realized, but not all of us can attend concerts, or afford the tickets. A fan is someone that supports their band anyway they can, they dont always have to attend concerts. Take me for example, I love GNR, i have a GNR shirt and i listen to the music everyday. But, i cannot afford to go to a concert because of ticket prices, long distance away, and school. so management has no right calling us as fans out. Release the damn CD, or shut up because we as fans are fed up. It is the bands responsibility to communicate with fans and let them know what is going on in the world of GNR. That way, all of the speculation and "Lies" as you call it can stop. I want you all to know that i am a huge GNR fan, but all of this crap has to stop. the band needs to keep in touch with us, let us know what is going in the awesome world that is GNR.

I realize that Merck probably couldnt give a damn about my feelings, but i felt that i had to write a response. This is just a GNR fan voicing his opinions, so hopefully you agree. Im not trying to start anything, im just voicing my opinion. Please do not remove this topic as i want everyone in the forum to read it. Hopefully Merck doesnt censor it!

The only guarantee GNR will give you is if you go see a show. ?You know the songs you'll hear, you know Axl will kick ass on stage. ?Perhaps hinting that CD is on the way increases ticket sales. ?I don't know. ?There is no guarantee CD will EVER be released. ?All the secrecy is really annoying, but that's the way they want it.

do you realize that merck has a JOB ?
do you understand that ? i mean.
i work at L'Oreal. lets say you're interested in knowing when the next perfume from l'oreal is gonna come out and how it's gonna smell (yeah i know i have a gay job).
can i tell you ? no.
do i have time to tell you? no.

that's me and my gay-ass job.

now take merck. he is managing a rock star. axl rose. and his bands. the CD is the most expensive ever. they are late in releasing it.
i think the way he communicates with us is more than what he should do.

i'm not defending him. but i can see him BIGGER issues than telling us what's going on ..... ?

You're entitled to your opinions and Merck/gnr was only talking about fans who come here and post every night there is a show and complain about the setlist/concert when they were not even there. I agree with some of what you said, I believe if there was a release date a lot of lies/speculation and rumors would be put to rest.. but unfortunately gnr has really never operated on the same terms as most other bands in the world......

I also agree that a lot of the people who are internet fans are just as real as fans as the ones who go to a lot of shows, it's been the internet fans that have been the backbone of guns n roses fans over the last 8 years because we are the ones that have been keeping gnr relevant in our friends minds and we are the ones who have helped put to rest a lot of the bullshit that gets spread about gnr in public places, bars, etc... peace

P.S- Axl/Merck and the band appreciate the internet fans too as has been shown in the past by pre-sales here.......

Two things are for sure:

1. Merck will not read this
2. You are fighting a losing battle

No matter how frustrated you feel, you are better off spending your energy elsewhere.

Charlie Brown is excited about GNR too.

« Reply #9 on: November 27, 2006, 03:57:55 PM »

I agree with the original post. ?I have a feeling, however, that it will eventually be met with a moderator or administrator telling us we're not allowed to criticize GNR management, and that "they'll make a statement when they're good and ready."

Very helpful.

YOU have a point.  But...you also never teased us with statements like '2005 is the year for L'oreals chinese perfume!'  Grin   Let him focus on the bigger issues, then...

yeah...
but if you tell me one day, that the pafume is gonna smell like roses, and that it's gonna be released in time for valentines day...
about a month before valentines day, I'd like to be sure that I'll have the parfume.
and then you chose to ignore me. in the meantime my friend gets an empty package of makeup, and I start to feel anxious...
will I get an empty package as well...
hm...

One thing I'd like to say is that I think a lot of people took the message from Merck wrong when it comes to the gnr internet fans, what Merck said was mostly addressed to the people who troll and complain about the setlist or Axl's image or stupid shit in every thread that has to do with a concert.

If you take the time to think about it Merck/Axl/gnr has shown us several times this year that they care about the internet fans...

1.Presale Passwords
2.The Hammerstein Warm Up Gigs (These were flooded with internet fans)
3.When the leaks occured no fans were prosecuted for spreading the music/links, gnr could have went Metallica style and sued their fans.
4.Bumblefoot taking the time to answer his emails/and do a chat session at one site
5.Richard Fortus answering all his emails
6.Merck writing a letter to this board/the fans
7.Whether you guys want to believe this or not Axl Rose has read the board at times too.

This band has done a lot to give back to us who have been supporting them for so long, you have to LOOK AT THE GOOD too, not just the bad..

yeah. but if we were informed about so many "minor" things, wouldnt it be normal to give us a release date also.
And it's not like he hasnt been answering e-mails lately. he has, but never anything "album related". That's the paradox.
its like they are trying to piss off as many people as possible.

personally, I dont care when it comes out, but I can see where the frustration for so many people is coming from.
I still believe that the album will be out this year, but that's far from a logical choice. anyone with a bit of brain power
would doubt a 2006 release. and most of the people who still think that it will be out in 2006 are running on faith alone.

I'd be really disappointed if the album is not released this year.
not because I cant wait anymore... 'cus I can, and probably will (what is there else to do),
but I'd be disappointed because they decided to let us live in the dark for months...
causing all the necessary frustrations, hate,...etc.etc.
