Q104.3 the largest classic rock station in the US (and the only station Axl talked to in over 10 years) has the top 1043 greatest classic rock songs every year Thanksgiving weekend voted by tens of thousands of listeners

In 2004 Sweet Child o' Mine was #44
In 2005 Sweet Child o' Mine was #42

And this year just a moment ago they played it at number 28

For a song thats less than 20 years old this is an Amazing accomplishment for GNR

Well Stairway is the greatest song ever.

Pretty good list that actually.

My top 10:

1. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
2. Guns N Roses - November Rain
3. The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
4. The Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
5. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
6. Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale
7. Pink Floyd - Wish you were Here
8. The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
9. The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
10. Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

That was the 2005 list he posted in which Sweet Child O' Mine was #42. It's #26 in the 2006 list. The 2006 list presumably isn't on the website yet.

well that is funny, considering Sweet Child O' Mine isn't even classic rock

Yes it most certainly is. It's got all the elements, a classic riff, a classic solo, high-pitched vocals. A Classic Rock Ballad is probably a good description. Admittedly, GnR are sometimes referred to as Hard Rock, a subgenre invented by Led Zeppelin who most certainly are also classic rock As everyone knows Hard Rock is just a heavier version of the blues-based classic rock played by the earlier pre-zeppelin bands such as the Yardbirds and the like. Most Classic Rock is hard rock, they're sort of synonymous at this stage.
