I just listened to OMG for the first time in about a year, and as I was listening I realized how bad the chorus to the song sucked.  the choruses to all of the new leaks suck as well, and are definately the parts of the songs that are going to limit their popularity.  Axl used to write such catchy choruses - most of the choruses on AFD, Lies, and UYI were great.

And the verses are still really good, it's just the choruses.  WTF happened?

Exactly. And let's not put down his ability before we heard the whole album.

Bohemian Rhapsody doesn't have a "catchy chorus". It still is an amazing track...

IRS has a lot of potential to become new PC, it just needs more power. TWAT has a pretty catchy chorus IMO as well as Better..

I agree. If only the guitars are more upfront in the studio version of IRS (like they are in the live version), the chorus is catchy like hell.

Gonna call the President! YEAH!

i notice that a catchy choruse makes u earlier tierd of the song.
I wont say Better has a catchy choruse either. Not Estranged, Not Coma.. But they are still masterworks!

Catchy choruses can work, but the main flow in a song, and the whole setting is the important thing.

argh...  what do you mean 'there aren't really choruses.'  do you know what a chorus (aka. refrain) is???  It's not defined by how good it sounds, and a chorus doens't have to be 'catchy,' which is how you guys seem to define it.  it's funny how you all jock axl so much and excuse the shitty choruses by saying "hey man, they're not choruses, they're just structured differently."  that's total BS.

And besides, musicians don't usually have to "lose" any ability.  They just evolve, and sometimes it's for the worse... and sometimes it's for the Better.  hihi

But jarmo, Bohemian Rhapsody doesn't have a chorus at all.  I'm not saying a song requires a chorus to be good (stairway to heaven another example), but if the song does have a chorus it should be the hook of the song.

I mean...any Chevelle song i hear, you know what the chorus is, its very formulaic.  These songs don't have THAT traditional radio rock structure.

The songs are what they are.

I don't think they should add catchy choruses to them just to make people like you happy.

Coma has no chorus either.

I guess something happened to Axl's ability in 1991 then?

You're basing this on a few songs, why not base everything on one song released in 1991 and say he "lost his ability" back then? Ridiculous speculation.

« Reply #18 on: November 23, 2006, 04:24:49 PM »

Most of gnrs best songs dont have a catchy chorus, only radio pop songs really have them. Estranged, Coma, And Nov rain three of gnrs best ever are not catchy. Btw better is catchy with the no one ever told me I was alone part. CD the song when all i got is precious time is catchy, so they do have some catchy songs that we hvae heard so far

It's not like every song has to have a chorus. Some songs just do better without them.
