New Bond Theme

It first took me like 3 listens to really get into it but I honestly think this is one of the greatest songs Chris Cornell has ever written and performed, anybody else agree? Its on the way to my number 1 played song on my itunes and its only been 2 days
Oh yeah the song name is You Know My Name/ by Chris Cornell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7j93Bf-EyI
Seriously great song and its more hard rock/instrumental sorta like a modern day UYI 1 track imo, just not so bluesy.

Weakest Bond soundtrack ever, I even prefer Die Another Day to this.

It's too modern, as is most (well, duh) modern rock. Live and Let Die will always be the best bond theme. Chris Cornell doesn't sing that well, either, but it's hard to tell with the amount of production present. It just doesn't sound the way a Bond theme should. It's too rockish.

rockish is good, especially for daniel craig, he doesnt look as suave as previous bonds, hes more gritty i would say and this themesong suits him well. i didnt like it at first but just because of the first 5 seconds i listened to it again and on my 5th or so listen i got addicted to this song. its already in my top 20 playlist and its only been on my itunes for 2 days! it will be interesting to see if it can take the top spot.
i honestly think that chris cornell is a great singer tho, i havent seen him live but i am sure he is probably just as good on CD. even if he isnt he probly has a good soundcrew to cover up weaker moments as does pretty much every big band/artist. i sortof like the direction he has taken and hopefully more of his songs from his upcoming solo album will be like this.
modern rock is not bad! by good artists that is. older artists take on modern rock is always 10 times better than new artists. but i guess some people here compare chris cornell only to the older generation, and in that case the competition is a bit stiffer. but you cant deny that this song owns anything thats on any music channel right now, and most radios.

Modern rock blows. Metal has dethroned rock for about 20 years, it seems. Classic rock (eye of the beholder, I know) is great, though. I think the biggest issue is the need for radio exposure, which changed production to be "louder" and a loss of dynamic range in an effort to be heard on car stereos in noisy streets. Solid state amps sound terrible, too. Excessive downtuning is also bad; it isn't even done in heavy metal most of the time. And, while rock singers don't need the operatic range of metal singers, they shouldn't sound like SHIT, which has happened to most rock singers, it seems.
Comparing it to radio rock is just burning a straw man. Compared to earlier Bond themes, it's not that great, even for this new Bond.

metal hasnt dethroned rock, i think your just a metal fan. what has really dethroned rock is pop/hip-hop and you can just watch any music channel or radio, or go to majority of bars and they will be playing that crap. i dont think metal singers have a better operatic range than rock singers, i think its the complete opposite. most of the metal singers just make weird screaming noises and honestly they sound like crap. if your referring to iron maiden than i do agree that bruce dickenson has one of the best and most distinctive singing voices, and is especially operatic. but just listen to a band like slipknot (i dont listen to them but ive heard them) or that screaming guy for the band alexisonfire (yes im ashamed i actually know they are a band), they all sound like crap, freddy mercury (rock), axl rose (rock), robert plant all sound alot better. im not a huge metal fan so maybe your also referring to the earlier styles of metal, maybe like some of skid row and scorpions, and if thats the case id still have to say they are both about even when it comes to talented singers with a great operatic range. but new metal, definatley not.

I'm a metal fan, but I enjoy old rock music, too. The majority of metal is terrible because it's not difficult to grunt and shriek, but the best bands, who best represent metal, have great singers. Dickinson, Halford, Dio, Conklin, K?rsch, Tate, etc. Slipknot is not a metal band; they are hard rock.
Pop/hip-hop never replaced rock. Rock just got bad.

i wouldnt even say they are hard rock, i like the term new age metal or something, because clearly none of their songs have any rythym and its just one guy screaming, hard rock has melody and everything that slipknot doesnt. ex) i consider Jet (new modern rock band) to be hard rock, Wolfmother too. maybe pop/hip-hop didnt replace rock, but i think generally all music is way too overproduced now (refer to the scott weiland interview thread) and that started back in the mid 90s. nobody wants to market a rock band as much as they do a disney teen idol.

I like the song, although Cornell's voice is not what it used to be. I'm still surprised that they picked someone like him to do a bond theme, I mean he's not exactly universally well known like (gulp) Shirley Bassey?!!
As for rock and metal vocals, I don't think there's much point in making lists and having a competition. As far as I'm concerned rock and metal are on the sameish page and fit into the ever-shrinking category of 'good music'. If we're gonna have a competition play them off against something else like rap or cheese-pop.
And for the record slipknot suck ass!
