how come they change the songs so often

I love guns n roses and all but i think axl lost the mark abit with his ever changing opinion on how he wanted the songs to sound etc. with so many frequent changes throughout the years on these collection of songs he has.for example there has been many variations in IRS / THE BLUES etc. why doesnt he let the spark at that moment and time be captured and leave it at that just like led zepplin done

Because he's an artist making art.
And when his work is ready for public purchase, he is then truly satisfied with it

Yeah, he's a perfectionist - thats how some people are.
I remember he said something about the AFD songs being worked and reworked and the attention to detail made them better and thats how he wanted to do it now -- does anyone know what i'm thinking of or have that quote?

actually according to Slash they recorded the entire album in under two weeks, most songs done in one take.

The band had played and rehearsed those songs so many times by AFD they had them down pat.

thats the recording of the songs, not the writing. in the recent Izzy interview he said that the songs were always changing, adding a verse, changing the chorus, ect.

Trent Reznor is a perfectionist. Axl is just anal. If it takes you 10 years to perfect something, hang it up.
I read that he said this new album "is a complex record, kinda like Queen". Well, buddy, it didn't take Queen 10 years

I think that's from the Loder interview (can't remember date, but axl thanks him for the RIR review).

hey if Axl wants to keep CHINESE DEMOCRACY back another month or two to touch up the smallest imperfections then so be it he's been doing that for the past 10 years if you don't believe me go to youtube and look at the 1999 demo of TWAT then look at it now plus a few months ago before i went to youtube i went to see if i could look at the lyrics i did then a week ago i went back there for shits and gigles and they canged a few thing for example in IRS it used to say after "gonna call the president-" it used to say somthing like-
"Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Repeat it with your morning anew
with police- hang over and the head lines true now"
but now it says
"Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it daily with your morning news
With a sweet hangover, and the headlines true now"
and with the improvements that Axl has made we as fans can only hope that CHINESE DEMOCRACY isn't far away

From a complete outsider's perspective, the Axl has had a tremendous amount of personal demons to wrestle with - forming a new band from the ashes of the old that can exceed expectations, crafting powerful, meaningful music that transcends the "it" trend of the moment (or, in Axl's case, decade
), meeting his own standards and satisfying his vision while dealing with pressures from fans, management, the label, critics, etc., and making GnR a relevant musical force for modern times.
From what I've heard so far, I'd say he's done a damn good job. Hopefully, he's able to let go and share it with the rest of us, and soon.

The lyric changes you read or heard or whatever don't even make sense. Every site that has IRS lyrics has slight changes in them. It's hard to understand what Axl is singing in several parts.
He supposedly put the finishing touches on the album at the end of October, when he fucked over a bunch of people and cancelled the first two shows. It's not being worked on now. They're busy touring. No touches are being added. As long as it's been, with a band this good, it's either done or doesn't exist.

Well if we can go by what Sebastian said, we can assume the final studio versions are done, from the Rolling Stone article
But just like every other performing musician, over time they might rework their songs, whether its lyrics or the arrangements.. doesn't matter what he does live, as long as he has settled and is confident in the final version that will end up on the studio album

Haha.. I wish.
If it does actually exist, and the words "Chinese Democracy" aren't just being used as a marketing tool, then it has to be done by now. If we're supposed to believe that the first 2 shows of the tour were cancelled to add finishing touches, then the work must have been finished. Otherwise, they would have cancelled the 3rd show/4th show/however many it took. So, based on that, I'm saying no changes are being made and Axl is simply afraid to release it.

If the album is actually completely recorded, it could still take a while for it to be released.
Seems to take around 6 months from completion of recording to the album being on shelves for most bands.
