Right, I've been sitting on this for so bloody long, but now that it's gone out to subscribers I can tell you that AFD has been voted as the number one guitar album of all time by the readers of Guitarist Magazine - the most well respected guitar magazine worldwide in the marketplace.  This is in issue 284 which should hit the shelves in the UK by the end of the week.

It is accompanied by a 4 page feature.  beer

Do I need to? From the entire myriad of incredible albums available, AFD was voted "best guitar album of all time." It does not deserve that, it doesn't even come close. There is so much more music out there to choose from and they chose AFD? Come on, at least they could of picked a real guitar album...

Appetite consist of 2 guitar players, above average for a band, and almost no effects or other non-rock elements. If that's not a guitar album I don't know what it is. Unless you are talking about real guitar albums, well, do you expect a commercial enterprise to focus on that? To the exception of a very small segment, it's plain boring.

O.K. Then regardless of the instrumental albums, do you think AFD is the best guitar album of all time? If so, call me up. Because I want whatever you're smoking.

Just to elaborate further....

There are also seperate categories for:

Best Acoustic Album
Best Instrumental Guitar Album
Best Debut Guitar Album (although AFD doesn't appear - but that's the thing about reader voted polls, they sometimes miss things...)
Best Underrated Guitar Albums

You should of included that in the OP, but its ok. My opinion still stands, AFD is not the greatest guitar album of all time. But of course, like you said, it's a reader voted poll... AFD is awesome, but I mean out of the vast crop of music out there, there is no way it could be #1. Whatever happened to icons like Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Jeff Beck, and their bands?

It's the guitar album that appeals to me the most, so yes, I think it justifies a top spot. I also take the PR factor in mind. What would you like to see?

How about: Are You Experienced? (Jimi Hendrix), Surfing With the Alien (Joe Satriani), etc. I'll post more later, have to get to class.

How about justifying your selections with  water-tight  scientific reasoning before it becomes incredibly obvious that you're whining about having your personal tastes offended? Maybe if Joe Satriani made music that people wanted to listen to he'd be higher up the list?

Weird that GNR would get "best guitar album" from a guitar magazine though. You'd think they'd pick a fruitier, more obscure album. Or something pre-80's at least.

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

There really no right answer to this, as all great guitar albums are highly techncial, innovateive, skillful and original. Its just a matter of different opinion and taste. I Would say appetite is in my top 5, Going back and forth between 1 and 5 on  a weekly basis, depending what cd I have in my car player.  I'm suprised no one brought up 1984, or Bostons first album, Master Of Puppets or anything from zeppelin.
