Right on, Matt.  All Axl is doing now is trying to rake in some cash on a nostalgia tour.  I'll buy the album much in the same way that we all stare at a traffic accident.  I will never go see them live again, it's too risky.  Maybe the delay is due to a change in album title:

As a huge fan, I won't be "bitter" if the CD isnt released. My thoughts stem from embarassment and incompetency from Axl and his band.
The problem is, the majority of the material on this CD is anywhere from 4-7 years old. The band has toured in promotion of this CD in 2002 and again in 2006.  This can't go on forever. The material will be so dated, that it won't matter how great the songs may be. It  should have been released 4 years ago, and if not then, then certainly right now.
The name GnR will continue to lose credibility in too many peoples eyes.

This is the first time we've been told explicitely, both by Axl and management, that the album will be out in this year.  Before it was always cryptic.  Now we've actually heard Axl say "It will be out this year" and Merck has said "It will be out this year".  So if it's not, I will be disappointed

That's exactly what I mean. It's not about people saying "they didn't promise us anything" or "they weren't obligated to release it" or "they never said anything definite" or whatever; in the past it's always been "maybe next summer" or "possibly this fall" or "we will announce a release date in the coming months..". They've never said "definitely this year, fall or late fall" or "there are x tuesdays left in the year, the album will come out on one of them".

There was more activity in the store than I had seen in a long time.  Another oppurtunity missed.

No HD Better ad, no CD, no single, half price tickets, and most importantly NOT A SINGLE WORD FROM THE BAND to us as to what the fuck is going on after all the promises and waiting. Unless they release a statement really soon telling us what is going on and anouncing a release date, even if it's in 2007, then they really fucked up and lost most of the fans that they had left. I know many people who will rather download the CD when it finally comes out because they have been fans for over a decade and the band has treated them like shit by refusing to tell the truth about anything.

? Yes, yes I do. and from what i've read for the past tour, i'm sure that's a fact. How many people did you guys hear singing along and recognizing the new songs? In toronto, i'd say maybe 5% of the crowd (hell it probably was just a handful)...

I'm not agreeing with the situtation...i think it's complete shite...the band could've been more damn open when it comes to releasing dates, etc, and at least placate us for a while, but stop whining like your parents didn't get you the toy you wanted for christmas...it's funny how when they cancelled the Portland show, they were quick to issue a press statement, but now that all the negativity in th epress, etc is coming out...nothing. Although, the album coming out WITH all this press behind it will probably create much more of an impact.

when he's using the promise of the new album, for the second time, to sell concert tickets, and the album isn't going to come out, at the very least during the concert cycle, then he does owe us something.

I think his voice gets better and better, seems like the more practice he gets the better he sounds, I wonder if the recordings sound as good as Axl's sounding now, I think he had big voice problems the last few years, that may have something to do with all this, I think he and the band are as good as ever, definetly better than anything out now.

Yeah I'm thinking he's had voice issues since the very first shows in Vegas in '01 and probably even back when OMG was recorded.  No telling why until he comes out and talks about it (yeah right!).  But his voice in the Better commercial sound awesome and sometimes his "smooth" voice sounds cool as I'm sure we'll all hear on "Sorry" which is one of the tracks I'm most excited to hear on CD.  But I'm sure he's gone back and re-recorded vocals with his good ol' chainsaw throat now that its back.

Yeah that's all fair enough, it's a very good possibility, but ultimately, why can't they just tell us these things and be honest? I'm sure people will be not only more tolerant but more appreciative if somebody came out and said "look, sorry the album's been delayed, but Axl wants to integrate the musicianship of the current band members into the album and further enhance the quality of the album, we anticipate it will be ready though by xx date, the band is aware of your patience and is very greatful" or something and at least make it sound alot more convincing and definite, and at the same time, a bit sympathetic to the fans who give their money to support the band, and in return I think that would go down alot better with fans. Just like Axl's personal comment regarding that show cancellation. People were rightfully pissed off and frustrated but i know (well hope anyway), that those same fans were taken back that Axl himself took measures to personally apologize to fans, especially fans on this forum

I agree, I would rather him take his time with the cd with the voice we love, he sounds great, I went to the WV concert it was flawless for being Live, I would go again.
