I think he would still be dead or at least in very, very bad shape. And I know one guy who was also thrown out from a car window in a same kind of a accident and he survived with just couple of stitches. But now he uses seat belt

Yep.. so it's all about how lucky you are. But anyway, seatbelts save more lives than kills. You never know what's going to happen.
