There has been some debate as to whether Merck was being sarcastic or not when he stated that a release date for Chinese Democracy may not be announced, and it may just surface in stores. Do you feel he was being sarcastic or did he mean what he said?

Talking Metal seems to side with the stance that he was being honest, and that they wouldn't be surprised at this point if it was a surprise.

So what do you think fellow Gunners: Sarcasm...or Not?

Its a reference from my favorite tv show, The Simpsons. The Comic Guy says Worst...Episode...Ever...at the most opportune moment and hilarity ensues? hihi smoking

as the end of the year draws nearer, this seems more plausible... but come on now.. it'd be a marketing suicide if the album suddenly shows up in stores with no announcement or promotion

If it's honestly coming out this year - I'm thinking more and more that it could be true.

Sarcasm, if only because I really, really don't want it to be true.

It's also marketing suicide if they put it out with months of promotion and a ton of money spent on promoting...even if it sold 600k its first week people would call it a failure.

So they'll spring it as a surprise so that you can't define it as a failure no matter what due to extraordinary circumstances.

Seems simple enough to me...

Sarcasm. No one is that stupid enough to a drop a cd, that's had $15million put into it, with no promotion.

Why would he be sarcastic? ?If they wanted to promote it don't you think Axl would mention it at one of his shows? ?He has NEVER mentioned the album ONCE in 2006 unless he was forced to by an interviewer. ?It's going to be a surprise.

It's not being promoted because it's not coming out. Be realistic.

If it's not coming out then why tour?  Whats the point, just to tour?  He is playing new songs, but he WON"T play anymore NEW songs until the album is released.  All of this touring this year under the name "Chinese Democracy" has to mean something right?  Just too many questions waiting to be answered.  It'll be out this year.

You could have asked those same questions on new years in 2000 or any time during the 2002 tour (which was also the Chinese Democracy tour).

Chinese Democracy DOES mean something... it's something that's never going to happen.

By them not promoting it that is the promotion. Get it?
