They can't give us something that doesn't exist yet.
If the album is finished/mastered it's easy to give a release date, hundreds of bands/record companies do this. But only "if' it's finished''
There are other issues to be resolved besides completing the actual recordings. Disagreements on
how
the release will take form could very well be what holds up deciding a definite release date. But if it is like you say, that the recordings haven't been finished, we could very well be looking at a late '07 date, or worse.

I haven't given up on 2006.
Why would they persistently reiterate that it would come out in 2006 otherwise?
Since MTV awards when did "THEY" reiterate that? I haven't heard them do it.

i think things are starting to look grim unless its targeted for mid december now.
simple as that.
i mean if the thing was getting manufactured for mass distribution, which it would be around this time if it is indeed coming out this year, then we would definitely have heard something by now or fairly soon.
i think its getting close but we shouldn't give up just yet.

I don't understand how ppl think we will know when it has been manufactured for distribution. How would someone find that out unless they worked for one of the companies. Do you find out about manufacturing for any other release? no. so you wouldn't for CD. christ.

I'm in the camp that believes the album isn't coming in 2006. Even when Axl said it he didn't seem too sure. Really the thing that gets me is the keeping quiet of any info. I mean not letting Ron say anything about it in interviews is kinda crazy. There's no point in keeping the info under wraps. If its not coming out then I think people would be much more appreciative if there was just a forthright, "the album isn't quite ready yet" instead of sitting around counting down the Tuesdays and being disappointed when every rumored date passes. And it also doesn't help stir up any publicity if the thing is coming out by not saying anything.
My only guess if it is coming out this year would be that they don't want to say anything and jinx it and have Axl suddenly decide he wants to change something. But then again if it were coming out this year its pretty close to the point where he wouldn't be able to change anything.

On the official site it says "upcoming album Chinese Democracy" Not that it will be out this year. At least I don't think so. But my memory could be wrong. Bach's site? Pfff! It's not even worth a comment. RS article. I'll grant you that. BUT! Still looks like 2006 won't be the year. And if so. Did Axl and Merck lie? If it doesn't come out yes they will have. What can we do about it? Absolutely nothing. But I'll grant you that you are right. They did reiterate 2006 in the Rolling Stone article.

I think we're far past the November release date. At this point there's only one truly viable release date. December 19th. This isn't a necessarily bad choice. Dec. 5th has Gwen Stafani and Eminem both on Interscope. Throwing GNR in the mix would just cloud the top ten and the label wants all three bands to get a #1 disc...SO...if GNR comes out on the 19th that gives Gwen and Eminem two weeks to fight it out. Then, on the 19th, GNR will come out and surely nab the #1 spot on billboard. they will have the clear lane for the rest of the year and for the first few months of 2007. They could easily get 3-4 weeks at number one. That in itself is promotion. Plus the 19th coincides with their LA appearance, giving them the perfect opportunity to do the entire talk show/radio show circuit...

Now that does make sense. I do however think Axl will give some info on single and/or release date, something, at MSG.

The album has to come out for American Thanksgiving.
December is far to late, Axl needs to capitalize on Christmas shoppers
