I believe the qualifications for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are 25 years.

It is of my most humble opinion that the said band has not yet been guaranteed admission; give it time, give it faith; in due process they shall be faced with this excellent fate. I love them quite dearly, you see; unfortunate, then, that not all agree.

They are not eligible until 2012.  They will get in based on the strength of AFD alone.  It is widely considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time, and if the Sex Pistols can get in with one album than so can GNR.  The bigger question has always been which incarnation of the band will play at the ceremony.  I believe it would have to be the original lineup or nothing because I do not see Slash and Duff sitting quietly in the audience while the new band tears through "Welcome to the Jungle."

AFD's debut numbers will never be topped. They will always hold that record.

No music now, or later will be able to surpass it. There's just not the interest in music anymore, and the generations have changed. For us, the newest album or concert in town was the big deal. Today's kids, it's the newest video game, or internet download.

Uhhh...Boston technically holds the record. The RIAA has certified their album 17 times platinum, whereas they've certified AFD 15 times platinum. But, Wikipedia claims that AFD has actually sold 20+ million and hasn't been re-certified yet.

I thought def leppard held the record with 20million albums sold or i think it was either hysteria or pyromania...

It's worldwide sales that count. The US ain't the world. We're atleast talking 40+ million.

Is there some kind of story behind Boston selling that much? Their an ok band, but I don't see anything that justifies a frenzy like 17 million copies.

We're talking about debut albums. 'Pyromania' was Def Leppard's third album, 'Hysteria' was its' fourth. I do believe Boston still holds the record, but 'Appetite' is close to surpassing it.

For what it's worth, I don't think GN'R will get serious consideration for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame unless there is a reunion of the original members down the road. Given the current state of things, I don't think it will ever happen.

This is when things start getting stupid! If They get in based on AFD, then SLASH and DUFF are the ones being honored with axl you idiot, I think the new guys in the band would realize that. After all, it is axls. slashs and duffs music. It is dumb opinions liek this that divide fans. Why cant you just admit that the old band is why this is all happening. I cant wait for CD to come out, I hope it rocks, but to act like slahs and duff had nothing to do with gnr is just plain STUPID!

What is black today can be white tomorrow... The state of things may change in the future.

I'm quite hopeful about a reunion. Smiley

AFD is the biggest selling "debut" of all time.  Alanis Morressette released an album before Jagged Little Pill.

Who cares about the RandR HOF.  What a stupid idea.  A rock museum is a neat idea, but getting nominated and voted in and what not.....sooooo retarded.  Doesn't mean shit to me if GNR gets in or not.  The only good thing would be it would mean the highest chance for a reunion gig.  Otherwise its not like the Baseball or football HOF where its really an honor to get voted in and the competition is fierce.
