Right, but if you were a person coming from out of town you would want to be where the action is.? It certainly wouldn't be my choice point for living though.? I am used to my suburbs where I hear crickets, not horns and sirens.? But I would certainly advise anyone else who is coming to actually see and feel the city to stay in the middle of the action. Ok I wouldnt got as far as hearing horns and sirens.lol, thats not the case atually on durng rush hr, lol, I live in brooklyn, in Bay Ride, a stones throw from Manhattan, and I can hear crickets here too! Smiley

Bay Ridge rules, I have a lot of friends in that area, I frequent the Wicked Monk on 85th and 5th Grin

In regard to some of the posts above:

Definitely fly into Newark and not JFK if you are coming from overseas, it is a lot better run of an airport and I have found the customs folk there to be a hell of a lot nicer than at JFK. ?If anyone needs help with how to get into Manhattan from there let me know and I have some links to help you out depending where you are going or you can just google "Newark Airport Transportation" and it should come up for you.

Edit:

Here is the link for transportation options:

I'm going to be down at Bay Ridge in late November..
but that's another story.

Newark Airport..I know there's a bus that travels from the airport to Grand Central..I think it costs about 10 or 12 bucks.  It's not too bad of a trip ..I agree..JFK is a tougher place to deal with than Newark.

JFK is a downright shithole if I may say so.  It also holds the record for most incoming and outbound flights daily in the US making it pretty dangerous as the planes are flying into and out of the same airspace.  If you remember there was an accident there in 2001 due to this.  I was doing a lot of overseas traveling back in 2001-2002 because I partially lived in France at that time and I will tell you I only went through JFK once and never again.

Well considering the other option being LaGuardia which has a short runway out there I rather take my chances with JFK..at least I won't need to deal with the hassles of praying for a long runway.
Yeah it's busy at JFK but then so's Newark. And I do recall the flight that went boom about 2 months after 9/11..

It's not a terrible shithole..the Monorail is kind of cool to deal with but after awhile the novelty wears off.

Cabs charge $45 flat rate from JFK to anywhere in NYC from what I recall (which might be going up if they cabbies had it their way) and this is not counting tolls or tips..so figure what..$58 bucks..yikes.

Yea LGA has the shortest runways in the nation I believe (half the size of Newark and JFK) and if they miss you are taking a nice swim, haha. ?There isn't anything more heartstopping than landing at LGA in a snowstorm watching out the window and seeing the runway covered in ice, hitting the ground and watching the plane swirve all over the place-yes this has happened to me! But most international flights from London/Western Europe come into JFK and EWR. ?Wow, the cab fare has taken a jump at JFK-I think it was only $30 plus tolls when I used it to go into Manhattan in 2001.

My main reason for suggesting Newark though is because I just find it a little more orderly and easier to navigate as an airport, especially if you are a traveler that has never been to NY-

But I found a guide here online that covers transportation from any of the airports-

Any other bars in the area where we can get together? The upstairs at Mustang Harry's is already booked.

I mean there are so many places to go, I know I'll probably hit the Fridays again like I did back in May, or is the Houlihans still in the train station?

I think it is still there. There are plenty of bars around the garden to hang out at. Mustangs was probably the best....just crash it!

If mustangs doesnt work out, then Houlihans would be the best, its in Penn station, and everybody will pass it when they get out of their trains.

whenever there's a concert at the garden I always see tons of fans in there

Yep..and I remember the days when checker cabs had bucket seats for the extra 2 passengers..life was good then..Times Square wasn't so Disneyfied...the gritty feeling of being in an urban jungle..now it's just become too..touristy.

One thing for sure..the quality of life might have improved..but the freaking cost of living has more so.

There's always a Friday's on 34th street and I think between 7th and 8th avenue....if memory serves me right..

No matter where the pre party is..it'll be crowded no matter what.

No, the person said they have to give the occasion to avoid that situation.

Alright - so there's not 100 different people meeting in 100 different places, we need to vote on where to pre-party.

I'm down with TGIFriday's, personally.
