Thought about putting this in the Del James on gunsnroses.com thread but unsure, feel free to move.

'When certain former members of Guns N' Roses quit, like Slash and Duff McKagan, had they had their way that would have sounded the death knell for GN'R. Guns N' Roses was never their original vision. It has always been Axl's vision and drive to try to make the band as successful as possible without compromising the integrity of Guns N' Roses.'

Why has GN'R always been Axl's vision? Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor's vision and writes, records and produces most the material himself, I'm pretty sure GN'R didn't start like this. I'm also pretty sure GN'R's integrity has been compromised many times.

I'm not a hater, I love the new stuff almost as much as the old stuff and think Axl is great and all that goes along with him and the band. The article is obviously gonna be pro the current band, but there is no need to dis Slash and Duff, considering they made contributions to every current GN'R release bar Oh My God, and I'm pretty sure Duff was the main instigator for 'The Spaghetti Incident' therefore TSI was Duff's 'vision'

It's a band.  Simple as that.  End of story.

it was axl's and izzy's vision..  slash and duff and steven happened to become a part of their vision.... look at old interviews.. Axl and izzy put the ad out for guitar player and drummer, slash and steven answered to it and were even denied a few times... until they finally gave in..  Cool

Axl has said before that if Slash had his way the snakepit album would have been the next GNR album.  I think its clear that they wanted to go in different directions.

Aren't the more "epic" songs on Illusions "axl" songs?

Not dissing the old guys, just trying to explain the quote.  plus i'm bored and feel like posting haha.

Generally anything that doesn't sound like you threw it on there in 10 minutes is an Axl/Izzy song.. or An Axl song that he made slash work a lot on.... (locomotive, coma, november rain)  anyway.... this is dead horse stuff..

Yeah, it's quite apparent that they were pulling in opposite directions but what makes it ok for it to be only Axl's vision?

i think some of the things (slash, etc) that may seem cheap-shots and pointless to us, maybe they feel need to be said now as they hope more people are listening. as CD is released, talk of the old band will be loud.

we sometimes forget how many people don't have the GNR knowledge history and opinions we have from the obsessing for years of quiet.

i said the same exact thing...and can he possibly rationalize them being late to go on stage any more than he did?  i'm not saying that the reasons he gave weren't valid; i'm just saying that it doesn't warrant a 250-word essay.

I think Del James comments about Slash and Duff werent intended as stabs at them, but stabs at us. The fans. The ones who wont let go of the old band.

I think the comment was basically giving a big  Kiss Kiss to Axl ok

Anyway, I hope its back up tomorrow...
I doubt "the picture" will be back up, I mean....
I dont know why it was there in the first place...
The only thing I can think of is that they put it there intenionally real fast, and then took it off, just to kind of give us reassurance and hope for what's to come.....
They wouldnt have slipped up that much by accident, the truth will be revealed eventually......

Del James' opinion is not relevant since he's only licking Axl's arse.

Del James, Sebastian Bach, they are into licking these days...

If Del would've praised Slash & Duff, and bashed Axl, you'd be saying it was 100% correct.

So don't sit there and act like you just want the facts.

I just want to know why Del thinks its ok to say that GN'R has always been Axl's vision, when it isnt wasn't.

That was more of explaining that the whole GN'R thing was more his baby, than anyone elses.

But the real driving force behind it was Axl & Izzy's 'Hollywood Rose' combining forces with Tracii Guns' 'L.A. Guns', which is where Guns N' Roses was born.

But it certaintly wasn't Slash, Duff, or Steven's. Now that is fact. I'm sorry if it hurts any fans of their's feelings, but fact is fact. They were brought in later, after the band was already born.

Oh no ! Not the Gardener/Tracii Guns trick again !
Those guys stayed in the band like three months. Please... They are not even credited on AFD which was released more than TWO years after their departure.

I can't believe we're discussing Slash's essential contribution to HIS band : Guns N'Roses.
GNR was also Duff's, Izzy's, Steven's and Axl's band. It was a collective effort.
I don't like revisionnists as Del James who are trying to rewrite the past in favour of Axl to legitimate the fact that he's using the name of something that doesn't exist anymore.

Don't forget this : on the Use Your Illusion booklet it is written : "Art Direction/Design : Kevin Reagan, Slash, Axl Rose." You'll find the same note in The Spaghetti Incident. And Axl said in 1993 at the end of the UYI Tour : "As long as Slash and me are together there will be Guns N'Roses."
