Chinese Democracy Starts When?

« Reply #60 on: November 01, 2006, 11:10:33 AM »

I've been a GNR fan since day one but i'm at the end of the rope. Release the album already, what's the hold up?

Another mention on Hair Nation from Kim Mulligan about 20 minutes ago (right before she played November Rain):

[not verbatim]
"Well, I don't remember ever having an actual bet with anyone.  I don't remember saying that Chinese Democracy will never come out and if it does I will pay everyone a bunch of money.  I just don't hve the money.  I just got an email from a guy in Colorado asking me when he's going to get paid.  Listen, I never said that I don't want Chinese Democracy to come out.  I've certainly hoped it comes out by the end of the year.  And coming out next week is even better.  I just don't remember ever having a bet.  There I go again...welching on a bet."

So, there certainly seems to be a perception (at Sirius, at least) that CD is coming out next week.

Tawn Mastery is now DJ'ing...I won't be able to listen to too much of her set today.

I wonder....maybe
MASSIVE promotion
The weekend before?

Let the rumors grow
Like unchecked bacteria
In a petri dish

And then, Friday night
There's a marketing blitzkrieg
Strong saturation

So it's an EVENT
And not just a press release
Unlikely, but fun.....!

Focusing promotion on a weekend would be sort of dumb. ?That's when radio stations get the lowest ratings because of the least number of people of listening.

But, who knows?

I hve to say though...election day (here in the U.S.) would be a pretty sweet day to release an album with "democracy" in the title.

I'm in radio
And what you say is quite true
But not what I meant.

I meant interviews,
TV spots, MTV news
And places like those.

Run the TV spots
On targeted programming
E.g. SNL.

"Behind the Music"
From a little while back
Could be rerun, too...

But run the spots there
To appeal to classic fans
As well as young ones.

All speculation
But I've found Sirius jocks
SLIGHTLY more informed.

Hmmm... This is interesting.  6 days then, huh??  Could it really be the day??  Would they really not start promoting this album until it hits the shelves??  No single before the album comes out??  As much as I would love it, I don't see it happening. Thanks for the info though. If this was true, then we probably wouldn't hear anything official about until the album drops. I guess it would slow down people downloading leaks, because if nobody knows it's coming, nobody will be looking for leaks.

I do agree that it would be a little ironic. I would go buy the album, listen to the album and then VOTE. BTW, everyone that is registered to vote, should go and do so next Tuesday, regardless if the album comes out and regardless of who you vote for.

I would have a rough time.  Whenever we have big elections, I usually like to stay up late and watch the returns come in.  Next Tuesday's going to be a fun one for an amateur politico like me.  If CD came out that same day, I guess I would have to put the closed caption on the TV and blare CD through the stereo.

Sundays and Mondays, I believe.  Although, they sometimes get stuff earlier than that.  A few months ago, I went to my local Shopko to see if The Raconteurs CD was out yet (don't laugh...it was for my wife).  The guy working said he would check.  He came out of the backroom with it in his hand, but then told me he could'nt put it on the shelf for 2 weeks.

Why are you writing your posts in haiku?

It would be cool if it came out. I personally think it is a mistake to release it with no promotion. Of course, since it's so anticipated, it's had YEARS of promotion and I guess when it does drop it will be a big story.

They should at least relase a song to radio or something.

I used to work for a music news website, and i would know stuff weeks before the Sirius dj's ever talked bout it. My point is that i highely doubt they are going to know something this big and no one else does.

I've emailed both Tawn and Kim but gotten no response.

Calling into most music channels on Sirius is an excersize in futility...you go right to VM and almost never get a live body.

I think, most likely, what I heard (and then someone else heard) is about all the info they're likely to give out, even in an email response. ?Now that we definitively know they WERE, in fact, talking about a possilbe release on the 7th....there's not much more we need from them.

Now it's on to us to talk about how likely we find the rumor. ?Personally, ?I'd be surprised if it was true but I'm not completely convinced it's false, either.

Here is a completely refutable, unreliable rumor to which I  personally was a second hand witness.

A chain music store manager recently told a friend of mine that an unannounced release was due next week. He would know by Friday whether it was in fact coming.

Don't know if its true. But it could tie in.
