Wow. ?Sd, isn't it. ?And to think at that time we were all probably thinking we would get something new from GNR within a year.

I remember that... it hardly made any sense lol... something about Slash jumping in and finding the monkey.
Then MTV did some 1/2 hour or hour-long GNR special about all speculation around guns and ultimately said nothing

I searched Yahoo and this is was came up..heres the link: http://hem.passagen.se/snoqalf/tr-19961030-fax.html

I'll Post it too:

LIVE!!!! From "Burning Hills", California...

Due to overwhelming enthusiasm, and that "DIVE IN AND FIND THE MONKEY" attitude....

#1. There will NOT be a Guns N' Roses tour.

#2. There will NOT be an official Guns N' Roses web site.

#3. There will NOT be any NEW Guns N' Roses videos.

#4. There will NOT be any new Guns N' Roses involved merhandise.

#5. There will NOT be a Guns N' Roses Fan Club.

#6. There will be a new Guns N' Roses 12 song minimum recording with
three original "B" sides.

? ? ?NOTE: If all goes well this will be immediately repeated.

#7. However*******Slash will not be involved in any new Guns N' Roses
endeavors? as far has not been musically involved with Guns N" Roses
since April 1994 with the exception of a BRIEF feel period with Zakk
Wylde and a 2 week initial period with Guns N' Roses in the late fall
of '95. He (Slash) has been "OFFICIALLY and LEGALLY" outside of the
Guns N' Roses Partnership since December 31, 1995.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ***************************************************

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Nothing here is Subject To Change
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Without A PERMANENT SUSPENSION
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Of the "Pseudo Studio Musician Work Ethic"

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? SINCERELY,
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? W. Axl Rose

Is this the right one?? Its pretty funny. Its wierd its been 10 years since than, I find the time has gone by rather faster than expected. smoking

a few reasons. Him and Axl didnt see eye to eye in music they somewhat did But Slash wanted to stick to the basic roots...Axl wanted to move a long a little bit...At this point i dont blame either. They went there seperate ways I believe deepo down Slash just didnt wanna be in GNR he wanted to do his thing his way play what he wanted to play. and now we have velvet revolver.

After everything I have read, I just go with the theory both of them have egos way to big to work together.

That fax is always wierd to read again, considering there is a tour, there is a official website, there is new merchandize, apparently there is a fan club in the works.

I belive the Slash is gone people will always be there because the name guns n roses. Once the new album comes out and the band gets more press than people will know slash is gone but you'll always have a few saying WHAT??!! WHERE THE HELL IS SLASH!!??...but its to be expected.? smoking

so what does all this mean? that at this period of time axl's plan was to never again record a video for a song, never tour again, not to have a website, not selling merchandise..

or was this only about what would happen in 1996?

and what is "DIVE IN AND FIND THE MONKEY"?

Unbelievable. 10 years. I remember being in college and all my friends were into grunge and would give me shit about GN'R. My whole freshman year I blabbed on about how Axl Rose, Slash, Duff, Matt, Dizzy and Paul Huge were going to deliver a well placed kick to the balls of the music industry with Guns' next release....

THEN...

came THE FAX.

A bleak day. I have to say- at that point in time... I couldn't possibly fathom how the band could continue on.

But... somehow it did... and 10 years later I'm blabbing into my same friends' ears about Chris Pitman and Frank Ferrer.ok

Anyway, cheers to Slash.beer

As much as we may have all wanted him in- he may very well be dead right now if he stayed- that's apparently how depressed and disconnected he felt about the state of GN'R at that time. Glad he's found VR, and still remains a rock icon to this day. Great to see Axl on good streak these days as well.

I remember getting the news from Rolling Stone Magazine in the library at my college. ( Im gettin old!) I remember Slash saying in an interview around this time period that Axl wanted to sound like Pearl Jam and Slash was not into that. Slash wanted to move forward with the GNR sound, but did not want to stray too far from the blues based rock influences. Axl wanted to experiment a lot more than Slash did.

Yup. Hard to believe... but the internet still wasn't that big a deal back in.... so instead we'd get these little brief mentions in Rolling Stone every 6 months... "Axl Rose is in the studio with Duff McKagan, Paul Huge, Robin Finck and Chris Vrenna... hard at work on an industrial-style Guns N' Roses album slated for a late 1997 release. Matt Sorum and Dizzy Reed may or may not be in the band according to Doug Goldstein. Moby is producing. Slash is touring with Blues Ball." And that would be all we had to go on for the next 6-12 months.... I don't know how I survived.Shocked
