A hair's breadth!!

« on: October 30, 2006, 12:01:53 PM »

We are now in the midst of the second Chinese Democracy tour.

Has something like this ever happened before; touring in support of an album (or at least with the same name for a tour) without one?

GNR continues to destroy convention.

Axl is touring to raise awareness of the government in China, not in support of an albulm. Tongue

It really baffles the mind doesn't it?  Particularly since each night only includes two or three songs from the album the tour is named after.

I think it's (at least) the third Chinese Demcoracy tour. Unless you consider Europe and US together.

This thread is destined to be deleted......

It is what it is.....  I guess the point of this tour is that they ARE going to different places than before - trying to go all over the country and get everyone to see that this band is really, really good and generate excitement about the new album.  I'd just be sure to put lots of those new songs in every night to generate buzz - because the new songs are great.

Shit, I doubt anyone would go to a show that only featured songs off the new album. Lets face it, teens and young adults see Axl and the new GNR as being an old washed up band, and all the people seeing the new band right now are there for the old songs. The people seeing the shows right now like the old songs and I doubt they will like the new songs. Lets face it, GNR are not a rock n roll band. The new songs they are playing are not Rock N Roll. They dont have Rock N Roll Solos, its like shread, they dont rele have a rock N roll feel. And if you cant see this your blinding yourself to the truth.

You are wrong. I for one would love to see a show consisting of only new songs. I am sure I am not the only one.
If I don't beleive CD will own AFD, then that means I am stuck in time or something and might as well put an end to this meaningless life.  Grin

I disagree too.  The new songs fit right into the GNR catalog in my opinion.

I would love it if they played an all new song set. I suggested a couple shows to try it out.

The "warmup" part of the US tour was there for what then? That would have been the time to try it.

How can you say that when slash played Bluesy based Rock solos and Ron plays shread? And Buckethead who was once in GNR is a shread master.

It's kind of fucked up that they stopped playing Madagascar. They played it at almost every European show. Did they play it last night or not??

Ron and Buckethead can do whatever they want, but if you haven't noticed, Robin is playing a lot like Slash (as is Richard).  I just think that all of the new songs (except for maybe Silkworms and Rhiad) fit right into the GNR sound very easily.  Don't forget, the "GNR Sound" was pretty diverse to start with.

You're telling me IRS, CD & The Blues don't sound like GNR songs?

Non-message-boarders wouldn't like a set of all new songs... I didn't when I went to Red Hot Chili Peppers (Let alone their new material sucks with the exception of a couple)

But I would love it if they did all new songs...

Dream setlist for me:

Chinese Democracy
Better
The Blues
There was a Time
Estranged
Rhiad and the Bedouins
Rocket Queen
Madagascar
Oh My God
IRS
Catcher in the Rye

I mean, do you think it would hurt the band in some way to play an all new song set or two?

And I'm not whining about what's going on now, but maybe after the album drops?

And for the ones who only want to hear the old stuff, GNR could let it be known in advance that the shows are soley there to showcase the new material.

Can anyone else think of a situation where a band has toured this long without a new album that WASN'T a nostalgia tour?

Hell, even Pink Floyd & The Stones release new material before they tour.

The only ones I can think of are the Eagles, Kiss & The Who - but those are always "farewell tours".  This is supposed to be an introduction of a hot, new, rocking band on the verge of greatness!
