« on: October 28, 2006, 06:50:30 PM »

cd has become so absurd to begin with that, if it's actually possible, i think the only way they should even consider releasing it is by having it just appear in stores

i guess it would still leak beforehand though

but who cares about the promotion? i would just like to hear the album

apparantly you'll come to realize, if you haven't by now, everyone and their moms do.. except fans that are there for the music and not for the band being ultra popular again

This thread is only going to lead to one of the same topics we have been talking about since the RS article came out. There is not much else to say about it just appearing in stores VS. promotion... we've already discussed it a hundred times.

For the band to have a future, the cd has to be a success. For it to be a success, it has to be promoted.

So people who want to see more of the band beyond this year(?) care if they promote the album well.

I don't think a pre-release promotion would be worth, since this CD has already become a "joke", I meant, if merck, Axl or whoever come tomorrow and say "The album will be out at XX/XX/06" and start a big promotion people would be like: "Yeah, right! I've seen this movie before!"...all they can do is set up a release date and release it, then start a big promotion, because the album would be already in the stores, so people will know FOR SURE that the album was, in fact, released, and it wasn't a joke or a "phony" release date created by some "insider"...

A release date has never been set before, NEVER. So why would people say, "We've seen this movie before?" Anybody that has followed GN'R closely over the years, knows there has never been a release date and there still hasn't.

if there's no release date i would be confused. ?there would be no hype at all. ?hype is half of album releases, people talk about it before its released.

"hey man, gnr's coming out with a new album, i thought they broke up?" "oh really? ?i gotta check it out when it comes out."

I agree....people are always saying..."Gnr need to do this, Gnr need to do that", how do these people know what GnR need to do? All I think they need to do is release the album, anything else I will leave up to them. I certainly won't lose any sleep over how they promote the album. And no, the CD doesn't need to be a success for this band to have a future.

lol i know i signed up then....but was part of the boards a loooooong time ago.... mostly i had feuds with Xozi and Queenie... back when they didn't have this format and they would spam the hell out of the boards back then..... it was all very chaotic on here.. and i was very umm.. immature back then.. it was fun to bash people.... lol yeah the good ol' days.. that even happened on the gnrforums ran by the band...... to the point that they were shut down due to sensible information being released to people along with a lot of x rated material being posted there... wow thinking back on this made me feel old Sad  crying  crying  peace

Ive always thought and said that it would require minimal promotion at least to begin with

Word of mouth , strong reviews and a big mainstream radio hit (perhaps the second or third single) are whats going to sell this album

Yes, you, myself and people here knows that very well...but the "specialized press" seems to don't know about that...and those are the people who have the power to make the album a huge success or a huge failure...

I think the people who have the power to make the record a success or failure is the people that will or won't buy the cd...   most cds get crap reviews unless the reviewer is a fan...... just stop worrying so much, wait until it happens.... youre not in gn'r, only a music appreciator, get over it, you can wish and wish that something will happen the way you imagine it in your head... but the truth is. what axl & the band say is what will happen..... well i guess mainly axl and the record company.........so reviews mean poop, it's what people think, not reviewers that count.

The album can still be a huge success regardless of what the press has to say about it. If the songs are great and the album kicks ass, it will be successful. Even back when GN'R were the biggest band on the planet, half of the press hated the guys and always talked shit about them. You know what they say, "Any press, is good press." To a point that is true and if the album is released and Axl gets arrested 4 times and we have a few riots, I think the album could do very well without the "normal" promotion.

Its not about being huge again....but to take 15 years to make a record, it will be nice if it was number 1 when it came out
