I didn't buy GH, but this one might be worthy of purchase if it has "Sympathy For The Devil" on it. That was the only reason to buy GH in the first place since it was such a horrible collection of their best songs. A real "best of" for GN'R would have to include at least 9 of the 12 songs from Appetite, and then "Coma" and "Estranged" from UYI at the very least (out of songs from UYI that were ignored for GH).
Fixintodie posted the tracklist:
Disc One:
Welcome To The Jungle
Mr Brownstone
Sweet Child O' Mine
November Rain
Civil War
14 Years
Used To Love Her
Out Ta Get Me
Down On The Farm
Perfect Crime
My Michelle
Coma
Move To The City
Nightrain
Live And Let Die
Don't Cry
Disc 2
It's So Easy
You Could Be Mine
Paradise City
Knocking On Heaven's Door
Patience
Yesterdays
Pretty Tied Up
Black Leather
Double Talkin' Jive
Locomotive
Dead Horse
You're Crazy
Estranged
Rocket Queen

If it was re-recorded, there wouldn't be a pic of the AFD lineup...
In the european promos it shows live footage of old band..
im just Saying.
That's because whoever designed those commercials is a moron. This was/is a legitimate Universal release. They wouldn't/couldn't do something like that.
Yes, if they posted false artwork attributed to Universal/Geffen on their website, they would be liable to get their asses sued.
BTW, the first thing I thought of when I saw the blood-splatter style artwork was, "Motley Crue Red White & Crue." Same style.
I'm wondering if this guy invented the "new" GN'R logo (that we've seen on the official site and such) or if the logo was invented beforehand and he used it on the album.
Which would indicate that Geffen/Axl/etc. planned on a tour since some time in 2005, and it was not a last-minute "let's go on tour" deal. This was all planned very well in advance.
But if this is the case, then why did they cancel the album..?

Oh, and one more thing: the chances of this surfacing now is weird. I wonder if they're going to drop a Very Best Of and Chinese Democracy on the same day... Huh
Do you remember last December, Very Best of GN'R was on Amazon for preorder, and then it suddenly changed to Chinese Democracy, and then it was totally removed?
Methinks there is something rumbling, fellas...and has been since last December...

Yeah, I don't get it either - the whole thing with the new logo being used it the thing that I find the most interesting.

I hope it does get released, actually. The packaging for Motley Crue's album was excellent. I love that album. It's the equivalent of a Criterion DVD - it even had an essay pamphlet inside. The GN'R one would be kickass. The tracklist isn't exactly what I expected, though...I like Down on the Farm and all, but c'mon, taking precedence over some of their other hits...?

Clearly this is real. It's for the album that was once listed on Amazon and other sites last year. The question is whether or not this album will be released, get released w/ C.D., etc. etc. I think the artwork is great though.

What would have been interesting is to include "Sympathy For the Devil" and "Shadow Of Your Love" on there. I'm sure alot of diehards would buy it for "Shadow" alone.

My belief is that last fall, when Axl and Slash were ?known to be in contact, the plan was maybe to drop this and do a tour with the original band. ?But for some reason, plans changed and they decided to actually release CD, and then release this Very Best of in 2008 when the reunion tour will happen.

As I mentioned before, this album was first "confirmed" back in '05 for a late December release. It wasn't confirmed by Geffen but was confirmed by other sources and listed on Amazon.com (and many other sites) for preorder. Someone who knew Slash/the band also blogged about it and said he had spoken to Slash about it. After the album was canceled he deleted his post and people assumed he was lying.
Anyway, it was on Amazon for a while and then CHANGED to Chinese Democracy one day...the actual listing was the same - the same URL and all - but the title of the album changed.
Seems like a weird coincidence...
I bet this is going to be released alongside Chinese Democracy.

I don't think they were going to do an original tour.
I think they were going to drop CD last Christmas and Axl/someone changed their minds last second. It was thereby removed from Amazon.
I think Amazon got mixed up and initially listed Very Best Of, and then they got the order for Chinese Democracy and REPLACED the "Best Of" with CD on the site...whereas they were actually two separate albums listed for release on the same day.
Chances are someone at Amazon saw the same release date and figured the Very Best Of was a mistake and just replaced it with CD.
Then after a week or so it was completely removed from Amazon.

Well that track list is good (I'm glad they put 9/12 from Appetite on there and both "Estranged" and "Coma"). However, I'm disappointed in some of the other choices as well as leaving off "Sympathy For The Devil." Some of the songs they put on there should have been left off for something like "One In A Million." Yes, the lyrics are really offensive and all, but musically it's a damn good song. At least "Used To Love Her" is on there.

I think this is all kinda fishy too.. ?I don't think that they'd release the new GH cd on the same day as CD, because that could distract sales away from CD... but around the same time, I could defently see that as a possibility.
I kinda hope it's released too, it's a fairly good collection and would be good to keep in the car. ?Disc 1 looks way better than disc 2 IMO though. ?And the lack of DDM is a let down, but still a nice collection of songs.
I like the artwork as well. ?Not crazy about the cover, but everything else looks top notch. ?I hope the CD artwork is as nice as this. ?The use of the newer logos as opposed to the old logos makes sence to me as well (if this album is released around the time of CD) so that the new fans will gobble it up.

I dont think you understand the concept of "greatest hits" compilations.
Nice artwork, particularly on the discs themselves, but good riddance to such an unnecessary project. The band only has 3 original albums and most of this was covered on
Greatest Hits
. And some of the selections are puzzling: "Black Leather?" "Move To The City?" No "One In A Million?" No "Hair Of The Dog?"

Another note to think about, when did they start putting that FBI Anti-Piracy logo on the back of cds. ?Didn't that start in 2006? ?I know every cd that I've bought this year had that logo plastered on the back nice and huge, but I can't remember if it were standard for 2005 cds. ?Maybe that could point to this being newer..
And why is this just coming up now, instead of months and months ago?

No "One In A Million?"
Your kidding right? ?I know there are songs missing, but this isn't one of them! ?The record company would have to be legally insane to rerelease this song (no matter how great it is).

TIMELINE:
- Late 2005. An album appears on Amazon with the title "The Very Best of GN'R: Welcome to the Jungle." It is available for preorder. Release date is not set, but instead lists "December 25 2025," the default date for all "undetermined" releases.
- Outside sites start confirming the album through the album label. Media outlets begin to issue articles announcing the album's pending release.
- Ross Halfin posts a blog claiming he spoke to Slash about the "upcoming album" The Very Best of Guns N' Roses.
- Suddenly the album listing on Amazon.com changes from "The Very Best Of" to Chinese Democracy. The URL is the same and the sales rank is the same; apparently the title has changed but the page itself is the same. It is still available for preorder.
- About a week later, it disappears off the site after peaking on the preorder list in the top 50.
- Ross Halfin's blog disappears.
- A couple months pass and then the European tour dates begin to come into fruition, and the "New Logo" makes its first appearance.
----------------------------
My take:
I think the album was set for release last year along with CD.
I think someone on Amazon got two orders for two different GN'R albums for release on the same day and thought it was a mistake. He probably saww that Greatest Hits had been released the year before and assumed Very Best Of was a mistake on the vendor's part, so he OVERWROTE the entry on Amazon with Chinese Democracy, instead of making a NEW entry on the site for the album.
Then, Geffen/Axl/whoever decided to postpone it and as such all plans were scrapped. Axl decided to go on tour first and they pushed it forward to THIS year.
Meanwhile, the artwork for the abandoned "Very Best Of" was taken and used in advertisements for the European concert. The "New" GN'R Logo is lifted from the Very Best Of artwork and used on GN'R posters and online ads.
And now, I'm expecting our announcement within the next few days/weeks will be that CD is coming out, it's being released alongside Very Best Of GN'R for promotion purposes, AND a single will drop.

Silvertides 2004 album
Show And Tell
features it.

Most importantly, it
did
feature all of GNRs hits. The ones that werent exactly hits were at least singles. The most glaring omission would be "Estranged," but that likely due to time constraints. Also, the artists apparently had little-to-no input in the tracklisting. I think it fit the "Greatest Hits" bill well.

Legally? Would they get sued for including it or something?

Sounds feasible enough, but I'm a bit perplexed as to why you'd want to remind the buying public of the "old" band's output when you've just spent the better part of the past year building up the new band's credibility with said public..
