Axl wil perform the songs that leaked as demos. Though I could see Catcher in the Rye not getting any play. I'd bet almost anything that those songs were leaked for that very reason. So that they could play new material and the fans would recognize it. The album is alot further off than we hope in my opinion. here's hopeing I'm wrong.

What happened?

« Reply #121 on: March 09, 2006, 09:13:27 PM »

this is a really interesting question.

I think it depends on when a release is coming. If nowhere in sight, I think we will only hear what we have heard so far.

the press releases for these shows keep saying a whole bunch of new songs, but where have i heard that before, oh yeah, 5 years ago..

I don't think Axl wants us to hear any more new stuff unless it's the completed album version, from the album itself. these shows will be broadcsted, recorded, and all over the net before the fuckin show is over, so unless he's gonna release it sometime in the summer, why play new songs? At this point, I want to hear the album before I hear any more leaks, but, hell, you have to take what you can get, right, there are no guarantees

I don't want WTTJ as the opener - at least not every night.

Speaking of which - I hope they don't have the same setlist for every show.

Yes, hope they do this 'UYI-tour style'!

I wanna hear them do Civil War. The lyrics are particularly appropriate to the current state of the world...

I can only see songs like SCOM feeling a little tired and laboured this time around. On the last tour it was all about seeing Axl performing again after all those years, but since then we've been waiting four years for him to get Chinese Democracy out and we need something fresh and different from 2002 or they'll just be seen as a cabaret act if they come back with the same old same old every tour. Hopefully some of the classics will be revamped like some were to a certain extent last time. Cyber punk version of Rocket Queen please, Axl!? ok

They're going to have to give it some at Download against the likes of Metallica, Tool and Prodigy, so I'm not sure if November Rain is going to fit the bill there.

During 2002 GnR played some new GnR songs and alot of old material. Now that GnR have more new material, then it makes sense to drop some of the older songs from the set list, and while the new GnR will be performing as much new material as possible, i don't think they have enough new material to fill a whole set. Besides which, the fans still want to hear some of the old tracks. Taking into account the 2002 tour, what tracks should stay and what tracks should go?

Tracks to Stay:
Sweet Child O'mine
Nightrain
Welcome to the Jungle
Rocket Queen [one of my all time favourite GnR songs]
It's So Easy [no GnR gig is complete without this track]

Tracks to Go:
Patience [this song is so slow and kills live gigs  Grin ]
Knocking on Heavens Door [i really do not like this song]
November Rain [a good track but an epic track that is not as epic as the new material]
You Could be Mine [as much as i like this track, it is not so important]
Don't Cry [on record this track is No.1 on record - Live, it never sounds right]

Tracks to Add:
Estranged [i don't think the new GnR have performed this song]

November Rain not as epic as new material? None of the new songs are epic. There Was A Time is maybe a mini-epic and Madagascar has an epic feel, but is not long enough to be considered an epic. An epic is long and has loads of different parts, so November Rain is way more epic than all the new material. It will stay, and I'm glad, although I would prefer to hear Estranged. You forgot to mention Paradise City - its has to be there - its their best live song. I think both UYI covers LALD and KOHD should go. There are loads of tracks from UYI I would like to hear, but I guess the only ones I want which I'm likely to hear are November Rain, Don't Cry and You Could Be Mine, maybe Estranged or Civil War, so I'd like to hear all them. Along with the five AFD songs you mentioned + Paradise City and maybe Patience or Used To Love Her, that would be enough old stuff. I want at least half the set to be new stuff. Afterall, I don't pay e64.50 to see a tribute band at the RDS.

Why only 12 songs? Huh

They should keep Jungle as opener, Paradise City as encore and NR somewhere there in the middle. From the UYI-covers they should keep Knockin' and Live and Let Die. Knocking because I wanna be singing "Knocking on heavens door" back to GN'R in Helsinki and Live and Let Die because it rocks Smiley Everything else new stuff.
