Should GN'R make videos for the new album?

Personally, I'd be content if GN'R didn't produce any music videos to promote Chinese Democracy. Gone are the days of exciting 'heavy rotation' or setting VCRs to catch your favourites. Everything is available online anyway and while that may be a great way to generate a buzz, it's also a great way to kill it. Take for example that Blue October song 'Hate Me'. It's a touching song and as someone 'recovering', it hit home. However, when I saw the video I couldn't have been more disappointed. The singer was doing ridiculous blinking things with his eyes and the imagery at the end doesn't relate at all to the lyrics (and not in an interesting, abstract, disassociated way). Sometimes the imagery created in your own mind when hearing a song is far more engaging, creative and moving than what a director or marketing genius would like you to see.

I'm not saying that GN'R would produce a lousy video, but as someone who loves this new music and wants to see it succeed, I really think it would be better to let the music stand on its own.

I agree completely - I'm a huge fan of the old GNR videos, but seeing as how I don't watch MTV anymore, and they don't play much in the way of actual music videos, it seems like it would be kind of pointless.

Yes they should if they have a good concept to create and they do something fresh.

also, besides TV, it could be a huge promotional tool on the internets!

They need videos if they want to be successful. Just because you don't watch MTV anymore doesn't matter millions do watch music channels and it's a great way to promote, a cool video alone can make a song much bigger than it would otherwise have been (see Tribute by Tenacious D). All that's needed is some great live footage and perhaps a bit of imagery linked to the song lyrics as long as it isn't cheesy or just plain weird (see Since I Don't Have You) then a video for the singles can do nothing but good.

Axl has been ambitious in the past with videos, and I look forward to seeing what ideas he has now.

I dig the way Beck handled the videos for The Information. I know there isnt a chance in hell of GNR doing something similar...but it would be awesome.

They should, off course. The question is when. If it's gonna be a video that takes more than 1 day to shot, I just don't see it happening. There's no time.

To be truthful, I'm not necessarily sure I could picture Axl, et al. in a video at this point, unless it were live, that is.

Nah, in order to be succesfull, they need quality music and a big tour to promote it. Pearl Jam is a perfect example.

Color me corny then, because I think November Rain's video is perfection.   
I'm open to any possibility.  Who knows what Axl has brewing!  I wish I did.

Of course they should make videos. GNR had some of the best videos of all time... They should continue with that.

Most likely, because the tide has changed, it'll get play on VH1 more than MTV. VH1 has new videos air every single night of the week on 'Noctural State', which starts around 3am. They don't air any rap, so most likely GNR will see video-play there.

MTV2 will probably put it in the rock rotation, but VH1 at 3am in the morning has more viewers than MTV2 at primetime.
