The first single was YCBM if I remember correctly.. when did it come out?  Was it between these dates or was UYI already out before a single got airplay?

If you trully understood the history of the UYI albums and tour you would know that Axl did not want the tour to begin before the albums were released. The tour was scheduled way in advance and they were forced to tour or loose millions of dollars if they backed out.The albums were supposed to be done but they were delayed. This has been well documented by Axl. I hate people referring to this scenerio and believe that this is the it always has to be. This might be how Axl wants to do it this time but if Axl had more options this would not have been done in the past for UYI albums.

What they gain is that they're not releasing an unfinished album.

I don't see any gain.  Maybe management does.  Maybe we'll see the album next week or the week after?  Who knows at this point....

They don't gain anything, well, unless you're counting negative gain that is.

the same situation happend with U2's POP. the tour was scheduled before the album was done and in U2's case they rushed the album. Bad move as the album suffered as a consequence and the band has openly admited to regreting it. So much as to even sugest they'd love to rerecord the album. I'm glad Gn'R delayed the UYI albums rather than rushing them out. Also were the shows that Gn'R did before the albums came out even Use Yor Illusion tour shows? Sure they played UYI songs but was it technically the Use Your Illusion tour at that point?

What if you can buy the CD at the concert, like indie artists do it? Wouldn't that be crazy.

Not trying to be rude here, but what does that have to do with anything?

I love Pop. I know its the fashionable thing to do for most u2 fans to make themselves sound "old-school" by bashing it, but come on there are some great songs... If god will send his angels, etc .
This aint 1991, back then Guns could have put out an album of Axl passing gas and it would have gone to #1 based  on the success of AFD. They are gaining nothing by doing this and probably losing ticket sales to boot.

Not saying they're justifiable, but there's two reasons:

1) Album wasn't done but they wanted to start the North American tour to help promote it anyway.

2) By releasing it in November, sales will be stronger thanks to the holiday season.

While perhaps if you're a record executive you'd believe number 2, I think it's more likely the damn thing just wasn't done in time, yet like in 1991, commitments were made for tours under the idea that the album would be finished.  Remember back in December or January when Slash said that the album was coming out in March.  Perhaps that was the original intention and hence the tour was formulated, but in the end the album wasn't finished on time.  Who knows, but who's to say that the same thing didn't happen as was witness 15 years ago.

Cheers,

Andrew.

they are gaining nothing, they haven't gained anything since their return.. All they're gaining is showing they can play the old music over and over again to help make people like this as gnr...

if the album bombed then the tour would fail. So by touring now and proving how good they are they can get the hype machine fully working. And if the album is good (which i am sure it will be) then even better? Smiley

I read some place that artist's that can fill stadiums can make more from touring than selling albums. So at a guess, Gn'R are now recouping all the costs to make CD via touring. Any money made from CD selling will be a huge bonus.

Yeah but still, in a lot of people's eyes they're making fools of themselves.
Now, I'm not one of these people but hell, I've heard it said a lot lately.
