Do you think GNR will fuck this up and start the tour with no official word of a release date or single? ?It would be straight buffoonery for them to do so. ?This band is just so annoying in that sense. ?

Yeah, it's sooooo annoying....  Roll Eyes

Reminds me of.... 1991!

Yeah, but Jarmo - its not 1991 and GN'R isn't the biggest band in the world anymore. After the 2002 disaster, Axl absolutely needs to have a new single out by the time this tour starts, or this tour is gonna sink. Its no coincidence that you can still get GA tickets for pretty much every show. Most of the shows aren't selling well at all. If Axl and GNR want to be the biggest band in the world again, they need to tour behind new material, or they're fucked - there's no other way to put it.

GN'R will always be known as an American band - so yes, success in the US is important.

No. If he can live off of funds that come from elsewhere it's not important.

The album sales outside the US for both UYI's were pretty big.

As far as I remember, they weren't the biggest band in the world when they started the tour in 1991.

They became the biggest band in the world thanks to constant touring and having albums with hits on them.

They managed to play plenty of new material before the UYI albums were released and without a single out (the first single came later and the album much later).

So as far as I can tell, there are many similarities.

I still believe in what we've been told. So for me it doesn't matter if the album is out tomorrrow or the week after Christmas.

I don't care what day either. Just that the year is winding down.

If it doesn't come out this year hopefully those that go to shows have a great time.

Jarmo, technically they toured without a single/album out in 2002, and we see how well that went. Even with most people obvlivious that it was just Axl in the band (Not that this is a bad thing, and I'm not starting a debate - I love the new band) - many of the shows were only half-filled. People are going to see it as a total joke if there's no new material out by the time this tour starts.

No one in Europe saw it as a joke, this year.

Who are these "people"?

It's not 2002. Axl never claimed the album was coming out in 2002. Huge difference.

I could give you a list of differences between these two tours but you wouldn't care because you're too busy looking back instead of forward.

Yeah, but people are different in the US and Europe.  I don't mean it in a bad way, but we're different.  There are many acts that are huge in Europe but they flop in the US and vice versa.  The only thing that GNR really has going for them in the US now is Axl and the name.

Not if it's true that according to many people all people go to the shows for is to hear a few classics...

I don't know, I don't think anybody here knows.

All that matter is that we've been told it'll be finished and released before this year ends.

Then why was it called the "Chinese Democracy World Tour"?

As far as I know nobody in the GNR camp said anything to that effect. Yet.

Axl said after the 2002 VMAs that soon was not the word.
