Rod Jackson was the perfect fit for the music on
Ain't Life Grand
, I don't think Axl is suited at all well to that type of heavy, aggressive music.

What??? Axl
personifies
heavy, aggressive music. Axl can do it all-the hard rock, the bluesy songs, the ballads, the heavy aggressive stuff. Listen to My michelle, IRS, Better, Back off bitch, YCBM, OTGM, etc etc.

I think Rod is an amazing singer, with great and skilled voice, but when I imagine what Axl could have done with songs like Ain't Life Grand, Back To The Moment or Serial Killer, it makes me... sad. That it didn't happen and never will.

I dunno, I can't tell from the record, to be honest. He has a cool voice, but his melodies are very limited in range. Maybe he has a bigger range than he showcased on that album, but I can't tell from the record.

rod jacksons vocals ruined aint life grand for me his style is dated and more suited to a 70's rock band - theres no doubting slash's guitar playing -his riffs and licks are as tight as ever on these records as well as they are on contraband .i have no doubt axl's presence on any of them would have made them 10-20% better.

Ain't Life Grand just sucks.
it's five o'clock was a good LP, with the last good ideas from Slash in terms of solos etc.

Snakepit rocked! Especially 'ALG'- Pure down n' dirty blues rock?
Slash is a genius. I don't think Axl would have suited the 'ALG' album but who knows what he would've been like on 'It's Five O Clock Somewhere'. Personally I like the albums as they are.?

I totally agree. Eric Dovers voice really starts to grate on I5CS, and the sound is quite bad too - could it be Mike Clink's production? Despite the fact that Slash is awesome on it.

I think the first Snakepit record was good but would have been Excellent with Axl on there...
I didn't care for the second one too much. mostly because of Rod Jackson.. So I am sure Axl could have made it much better.
I like the first Snakepit album a lot too. But ALG sounds more like Slash's Whitesnake.

Rod Jackson ruined Ain't Life Grand.
I wish I could listen only to the instrumental versions of those songs.

With Axl simply singing what words and melodies that's already there, naturally. He's got a better voice. That alone heightens the quality. If Axl had also been involved in the creative process, it could even have been a good album.
I agree. I love the Snakepit albums. The guitar work on there is great. Then the vocals come in and it just ruins it for me.
