It's not "following fashon" when you 'grow up'. As people mature, their view on things in life change. This offten effects how you connect to music. What's the big deal? To NOT change would be stupid. I used to like to shit in my own pants when I was a baby, now I try to avoid it, So?

YCBM was written during the recording of AFD but wasnt quite finished in time for the record. Thats why it sounds the most like anything on AFD.

Check the Inner sleeve on AFD for a clue.

Yeah what he said....

Nah I do like parts of the songs and the music, not trying to take the piss out of people that like them, I just said it in a crass way.  But I think the point of the songs are a bit immature, and as I grew up I found them a bit cringe-worthy.  I think you can be, to coin a phrase "badass", without sounding like a 12 year old girl blurting out insults that have no real connection with who you're saying/screaming them at!

Sorry my opinion.

Definitely not their best song, or Axl's best lyrical showing. It does have a lot of attitude.

What I always liked about it is the way it sounds like his voice is just totally shot - like he had been singing in the studio all day- but he managed to rally for one more decent take and got a keeper. The song is so-so in my opinion, but the ragged quality of the vocal is great.

This song's alright. It's just really, really repetitive, and it might have the most boring chorus GNR's ever written.

Back Off Bitch now that's an out and out filler  Grin
The song is great. Just because it wasn't a single doesn't make it a filler.

I used to think of it as filler but it's grown on me through the years. I don't skip over it automatically like I used to.

The song is average, at best. Don't mind hearing it once in a while, but it should have been a b-side. Now it just ruins the flow of the album. Total filler.

the fact that a song isn't that complicated, or the fact that someone or you don't like it, doesn't make a song filler.

Usually, some songs are composed, just because a song in specific style is required at that place of an album. Do you think Coma could be first song of the UYI 1? or Sweet Child O'mine being the last song of AFD? Ever noticed how second songs of the albums "usually" are slower than the album opener, but still rocking? Dust 'n Bones? 14 Years? (GNR) 2 minutes to midnight, Wrathchild, Infinite Dreams (Iron Maiden) Sad But True, four Horsemen? (metallica) Symphony Of Destruction, Hangar 18? (megadeth) I just named only a few songs from very popular bands. If you search through your archives, you can see that it 's "almost" a rule (and of course there are exceptions, experiments). And in fact, there are many more rules like that on making music albums.

in order to pass from Bad Obsession to Double Talkin Jive, you need to listen Back Off Bitch. That's the flow. Same goes for shotgun Blues.

And give them a break, they don't need to make every song a ground-breaking hit. you can't eat delicious plates without drinking water in between.

Btw, there's a beautiful solo on Back Off Bitch, and beautiful intro-outro.

Good Post I agree not every song can be epic or whatever .....and just because it isn't doesn't mean its filler. I'm not even a big fan of back off bitch but I think it has its place hey man it guns all is cool  Wink

by the way as 2nd song you forgot the best 2nd song of all time ...... IT'S SO EASY !!!!!

in fact it's so easy can be interpreted as an exception to the "rule" I mentioned. it's faster but but as heavy as WTTJ. The thing is, back then, first single, the song which would make people listen to a band are usually recorded as an album opener. If that song isn't the fastest song (like WTTJ), there may be a shift.
1st song = a catchy song - WTTJ
2nd song = fast song (hidden album opener) - ISE
3rd song = not as fast but still rocking song - NT

another proof for that is, they used It's So Easy as first song of the concerts quite often. It has the caracteristics of an album opener.

another exemple to this formula is Pearl Jam's No Code. best of their albums.

anyway, I repeat, there are no strict rules, exceptions, interpretations.

Nice to hear a solo from Iz at the start, but after that it's pretty average... like a lot at the end of UYI I.  Co-written by Huge/Tobias, as well...  Angry
