Aerosmith Hoping to Record 'Old-School' New Album in 2011

Nov 4th 2010

"I would like to see a record within a year from the Aerosmith boys," he adds with more sincerity." My brothers and I are destined to make another record in the next year or so

"It's going to be an old-school Aerosmith record," Kramer continues. "We're going to do it the old way with the whole band [in the same room] and it should be a good one. We're all anticipating."

KID ROCK Slams STEVEN TYLER Over 'American Idol' Gig - Oct. 28, 2010

According to The Pulse of Radio, Kid Rock slammed AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly over Tyler's decision to become a judge on the new season of "American Idol". Rock, a longtime AEROSMITH fan, said, "I think it's the stupidest thing he's ever done in his life. He's a sacred American institution of rock 'n' roll, and he just threw it all out the window. Just stomped on it and set it on fire."

Rock added, "I think whoever's advising him, we should bring back the guillotine, or whatever they call that thing. And if it was himself, he needs some serious counseling. I love him to death, but I gotta speak the truth."

Tyler's move to Idol stunned his bandmates in AEROSMITH, who nearly split with the singer last year but regrouped for a tour this past summer and had plans to record a new album. Tyler says he can juggle both.

Well I agree that American Idol is a tragedy, and I wish it never happened, but not sure we need Kid Rock chiming in. He's a tragedy himself. He's not a kid, and he sure as all fuck doesn't rock. At least Tyler at one point in time was very cool. He did his part, left his mark and will die a legend. He's an old fart now, he should probably have died years ago, lots if drugs have passed through his system. What's Kid Rocks excuse? He sucked from day 1 and got worse. He's not exactly carrying the torch. He's as much to blame for the state music is in as American Idol. I think one of Slash's greatest achievements was getting Kid Rock to actually sound good on his solo album. I really just didn't think it was possible, but I Hold On is a pretty great song. Kid Rock should go out on that note, his first, and almost definitely last good song. And this concludes my rant.

Steven Tyler performing "Walk This Way" with The Roots last night on Jimmy Fallon:

When you get a guest like Steven Tyler on a show like Late Night, you really only have one option. Ask him to perform "Walk This Way", RUN-D.M.C. style, with Jimmy and The Roots. He obliged, and it was awesome.

So they are recording without Joe Perry...new album this year.

Aerosmith Shoots Down 'False' Rumors, Says Band Is 'Having Fun' Recording

January 27, 2011

Longtime Aerosmith collaborator Marti Frederiksen reports that the group has been very productive during its first few days of writing for a new album at his studio Monrovia, Calif.

"It's been really good, great," Frederiksen tells Billboard.com. "We've been playing songs, putting together riffs, having fun, laughing and working from noon to 11 (p.m.) We're just digging in, man."

Frederiksen began working on Jan. 22 with frontman Steven Tyler, guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer, with plans to continue through Feb. 2, when Tyler begins his live appearances as an "American Idol" judge. Guitarist Joe Perry was unable to attend the sessions due to an unspecified commitment, according to Frederiksen, but his bandmates were "missing" him.

The group put together four songs in its first three days of working together, though Frederiksen notes they're not necessarily finished products. "We're trying to move quick and not necessarily finish up songs and make them complete but just get a lot of stuff to choose from," he says. He predicts that one of the pieces has "such an instrumental sound" the group may just leave it that way. "Steven can blow harp on it and it'd be really cool," Frederiksen says. Ultimately, he predicts, "I think we can wind up with a lot of good stuff, and they've got a lot of great stuff already from the past" -- including a series of sessions with Brendan O'Brien in 2008 -- "that hasn't been finished, a whole stockpile that just needs to be produced up. I think they'll be in pretty good shape."

The album will be Aerosmith's first since "Honkin' on Bobo" in 2004, and first of all new material since "Just Push Play" in 2011. Last week, Tyler also announced that Aerosmith will tour South America and Japan later this year.

Steven Tyler: Aerosmith to Start Recording Album, 'Idol' Not 'In the Way'

The progress report flies in the face of some recent negative press that's surfaced regarding Tyler, including a recent New York Post article that quoted Stephen Davis, co-author of "Walk This Way: The Autobiography of Aerosmith)" as saying that the band is "unable to work" due to Tyler's "Idol" commitment. In a statement, Tyler's attorney Dina LaPolt responded, "We are disappointed that the New York Post would print a Sunday story containing several false and misleading statements which was obviously not fact-checked, including comments made by someone who worked on the band's autobiography over 10 years ago."

LaPolt added, "These are the facts: Steven Tyler, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton are currently in the studio in Los Angeles writing new songs for the next Aerosmith album. The album is anticipated to be released later this year. Additionally, Dan Weiner, the band's agent at the Paradigm Agency, confirmed that the band will tour later in 2011 by saying, 'We are pleased to announce that Aerosmith has confirmed a tour of South America and Japan during 2011. Within the near future we will announce the cities and dates in each territory, and when tickets will be available for sale."

Furthermore, continued LaPolt, "Mr. Tyler's 'American Idol' contract was specifically negotiated to work around his Aerosmith touring and recording schedule. It is the role of band representatives to ensure that all group members and the public have accurate and up to date data and if false information is made public, that these inaccuracies are corrected immediately."

As much as I don't like Tyler doing Idol its obvious to see why. Exposure to a whole different audience proven by Asmith catalog charting.

29-Jan-11 Steven Tyler's "American Idol" Job Is Boosting Aerosmith Sales
Submitted by: Dana

According to Fox 411, Steven Tyler's appearance on "American Idol" as a judge for the show's tenth season has boosted sales of old Aerosmith songs. The band's 1998 power ballad "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" is currently No. 19 on Apple's iTunes Songs chart, and 1973's hit "Dream On" is No. 61. The Boston hard rockers' "Big Ones" collection" from 1994 is No. 25 on iTunes' Albums chart.

"So far, Steven Tyler has been a pretty striking presence on 'Idol'," says Richard Rushfield, author of "American Idol: The Untold Story." "He's a wild character, and he's pretty much pushed Simon Cowell out of people's minds in just two weeks."

Backing up comments made by Tyler, Billboard.com reported on Thursday (January 27) that most of the members of Aerosmith are currently working on songs for a new album with co-writer Marti Frederiksen at a studio in Los Angeles. Guitarist Joe Perry who was unable to join his bandmates for the sessions due to what Billboard.com described as an "unspecified commitment."

Tyler and his bandmates ? guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer ? will continue working through February 2nd, when Tyler begins his live appearances as an "American Idol" judge.
