are you serious? I guess axl appearing on the VMA's was selling out? I mean a company contacted him to do a commercial for them that invloved a car with a built in amp? Yea he got money out of it but i bet it was a fun lil thing to do. People can't do anything that involves money w/o them selling out now a days.

Ah, you're hilariouse! Axl keeps on touring without an album, but when Slash appears in a 10 second commercial playing guitar hes "fucking selling out"
Yeah, right...? confused
Maybe he should return to complete that new uninspired and boring Velvet Revolver album. But he must be warned not to sell it, so he wont "sell out"?

im sorry but being on an advert for a VW is a bit more of a sell out than Touring with a band to promote the fact that your back and you mean business. To me Slash was the fucking heavy drugs drink rock and fuckin roll icon not a car salesman. I have always thought Slash is and was great and i still do.

If Axl did the same thing i would think it the same way, he almost did it with GTA but not quite as it was a parody of himself, Axl laughing at Axl.

This is all IMO so dont take it to heart im entitled to an opinion Just like everyone else here.

i love this commercial, i don't care if slash is "selling out." or whatever, its not like he hasnt appeared on many other artists albums and many TV shows too.  its all the same to me, its only selling out if he wants to do it for the money and the money only, i think its a cool concept and he did some good playing.

Let's not continue this line of discussion.

Dunno, maybe we should ask on your forum since you seem to be such a big VR/Slash fan.

I don't think this is any different to when he did the Mastercard commercial. He's been doing these kinds of things for a while now...

Ha, "sell out". Funny term. People who think that rock stars should only play guitar, take drugs, drink booze and punch people make me laugh. Grow up.

Cause he became more of a celebrity than an all time great Rock God..........

Dont get me wrong, I dont think there is anything wrong with it per se but Im just sayin if playin guitar in a car commercial is selling out, playing with MJ and Kravitz has to enter the equation as well.

nowhere near as bad as playin with NSync however.

Slash is still in my opinion the greatest original guitarist of my lifetime.

 Huh

You cant be just a little all-time great rock god - you either are or you arent.  I think you would agree that Slash is.  So his celebrity status is irrelevant in regards to that.

Thats not what you said, you said that he sold out when he played with those two.  I want to know why that makes him a sell-out.  You didnt really answer, and what you gave doesnt make much sense.  His celebrity status rose after the first GNR record was released - so what?

My point in asking is that this "sell-out" nonsense is nothing more than dumb, easy rhetoric.  Id like someone to give a substantive reason for why Slash would be a sell-out.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused as to how playing with Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz is selling out too.

Sure MJ is (or was) a huge pop star, but from what I understand, Michael wanted a particular guitar style and sound on a couple of songs for the Dangerous album and that's why he wanted Slash. I think Slash said the same thing too, like he thought he was just "flavour of the fuckin month", but when he met up with Michael it was more than that.

And as for Lenny, he wasn't exactly a big mainstream hit until that album that Slash appeared on, so it's not like Slash only played with Lenny because he was already popular.

Oh yeah, and Give In To Me, Fields Of Joy and Always On The Run all fucking rock! ok

How in the world does a big rockstar involve volkswagons? This is as bad as Bon Jovi in the commercial for batteries.
